Notable Passings

The dance family recently lost two great members: Harold Nicholas and Fred Kelly. Harold was half of the fabulous Nicholas Brothers, famous for innovative acrobatic tap dance routines that took the breath away from movie house audiences all over the world. Harold, along with his surviving brother Fayard, inspired thousands of young dancers with the power and originality of their performances. John Bedford, Harold Nicholas, Jo Rowan

Leonard Reed, Jo Rowan, Fred Kelly Fred Kelly was an extraordinary dancer, dance teacher, and choreographer. He was also Gene Kelly's younger brother. Raised in Pennsylvania, he grew up in a dancing family to become a Broadway dancer and choreographer. He then began to choreograph for motion pictures in Hollywood and dance with his brother Gene. Fred always had a soft spot in his heart for US military personnel, and would perform and provide dance instruction for them whenever the opportunity arose. And, Fred was enthusiastic about the OCU Dance Program and the accomplishments of its students.
