Jo Rowan was a faculty member at the Detroit Tap Festival, in May, teaching ballet for tap dancers. Jo performed a piece dedicated to the memory of Lloyd Storey, Peg Leg Bates, Harriette Browne, Fred Kelley, Pat Rico, and other tap greats. She then joined the world class faculty of the David Howard Ballet Workshop in Boston. Following the workshop, she became a member of the Dance Olympus/Dance America National Tour Gold Faculty and taught ballet master classes and performed in Chicago, Houston, Omaha, and Las Vegas. While in Las Vegas, Jo and Dean John Bedford held a reception for OCU dance and arts management alumni working and performing in shows on the famous Las Vegas strip. Jo then taught and performed at the St. Louis Tap Festival after which she traveled to Taos, New Mexico to participate in the acclaimed Jillana Ballet Pedagogy Conference.
Lyn Cramer directed and choreographed 42nd Street and choreographed The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas for Casa Manana's Broadway at the Bass, at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, Texas. She served as a Master Teacher of Jazz and Tap for the Southern Dance Masters Association and the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. Cramer also served as director/choreographer for Lyric Theatre's Dames at Sea. Richard Denson attended the Ballet Moscow Workshop at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, Illinois. He taught and studied at Dance Space in New York City. Most importantly, Denson had full-time summer fun in his proudest permanent role as "dad" to seven year old Hannah. Susan Gilstrap completed her coursework for a Masters of Business Administration in Arts Management. She began a full-time staff and adjunct faculty position in the School of American Dance and Arts Management in July. Gilstrap serves as Company Manager and Production Stage Manager for the American Spirit Dance Company and other performance ensembles within the School. She will teach Contract Law and Management for Performers. Susan Hebach judged the national finals and taught a master tap class for Rainbow Connection Competition in Las Vegas, Nevada. In New York City, Hebach took part in the American Tap Dance Orchestra's summer workshop/intensive. In Atlanta, Georgia, she participated in the Southeastern Tap Explosion's Tap Festival. Hebach choreographed/staged dancing for an updated version of Twelfth Night for Shakespeare in the Park in Inwood Park, New York City.
Rachel Jacquemain continued in private performance consulting for individuals and group efforts on recruiting for the Entertainment Business Program. In the month of June, she and Melanie Stovall traveled to Austin, Texas. The objectives were to network with practicing professionals in the entertainment field of films, music, and high technology in the development of the Students of Arts Management organization's spring 2001 trip. The upcoming trip itinerary will include the Texas Film and Music Commissions, the producing sides of Austin City Limits (PBS) and recording artists Asleep at the Wheel. Jacquemain traveled to San Antonio to network and resource potential internship locations for Entertainment Business and Arts Management students in both the commercial and non-profit industries. Patricia Oplotnik spent the summer teaching and training. Twelve days in July were spent in New Orleans at Dance Masters of America's National Convention. She represented Oklahoma as a delegate on the National Board. This year Oplotnik will become a National Certified Examiner for Dance Masters of America and will travel to Lubbock, Texas as an adjudicator for Dance Masters of Texas. Oplotnik is licensed as an International Dance Judge. She attended the St. Louis Tap Heritage Festival with Jo Rowan and many masters of tap. In October, Oplotnik will serve on the faculty of the New Orleans Tap Festival with tap greats Diane Walker and Sam Weber.
Nikki Singer spent several weeks in New York City with her family, taking classes in ballet, yoga, and pilates, and attending several ballets and Broadway shows. She attended the Moscow Ballet Intensive in Dekalb, Illinois, working in the Vaganova method. Singer studied Balanchine technique in Chautaqua, New York, and taught master class for intermediate/advanced students at the Inner-City Dance Center in Oklahoma City.
