The only place in town where the sounds of Santana,
Sinead O'Connor, and Bette Midler come together with movement of jazz,
tap, and musical theatre dance is Oklahoma City University. The School
of American Dance and Arts Management celebrates the choreographic talents
of its 2001 senior dance performance majors on Friday, October 13 at
the annual Student Choreography Show "You Know This Boogie is For Real."
Performances are held at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., in Kirkpatrick
Auditorium on OCU's
campus. The 21 senior dance performance majors from OCU's internationally
renowned dance program, chaired by Jo Rowan, will exhibit their choreographic
skill, creativity, and personal style as they present an eclectic and
dynamic evening of dance.
"You Know This Boogie is For Real" offers entertainment
for all tastes. From the toe-tapping "Vickie and Mr. Valves" or the
soothing "What a Wonderful World," to the powerful "Lonely People" or
the emotional "Primitive Denial," these talented choreographers and
performers will touch the heart and invigorate the soul.
A popular campus event for the past 16 years, the student
choreography show is part of the graduation requirements for dance performance
majors. After the semester of study in choreographic theory, the seniors
auditioned and cast dancers, provided choreography, costumes, props,
and lighting design.
