SAM meets regularly during the school year. Activities include:
Destinations of past SAM trips include; Las Vegas, Austin, Orlando, Kansas City, Branson, San Antonio and Santa Fe. In Las Vegas, students met with the Liberace Foundation's executive director and entertainment executives of Treasure Island Resort Hotel. SAM members attended shows and toured backstage at MGM Grand's $40 million production, EFX with Tommy Tune, and the Radio City Rockettes. The trip was topped with the Cirque de Soleil's production, Mystere. In Austin, students met with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Marc English Design Studio, Austin Film Society, Bismeaux Studios, Business Image Group, Austin Museum of Art, Tequila Mockingbird Commercial Sound Design, and Austin City Limits. In Orlando, Disney customized and four day workshop specifically designed to support our curriculum. SAM students visited with the Vice President of Disney Entertainment, designers, imagineers and production managers. In Kansas City, the focus was on the event coordination, trade show and convention business. The group had the opportunity to meet with event coordinators from Union Station/Science City, Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, Starlight Theatre/Epic Entertainment, Andrews/McMeel Universal syndication corporation, American Royal Association award winning event facility, Agenda/Kansas City event and production company. In Branson SAM investigated the city infrastructure enabling this relatively small town to serve as a well attended entertainment destination service provider. Students met with the President of the Branson Arts Council, the Co-owner and Co-founder and CEO of Silver Dollar City, Branson’s Assistant Director of City Planning and a variety of entertainment managers. San Antonio’s visit was all about festivals with the focus on San Antonio’s annual Fiesta in the spring. Santa Fe is a nurturing location for individual artists to work their magic and for non-profit organizations to flourish. The SAM spotlight in Santa Fe was on artists, tourism and the success of their non-profit arts community.
