Check Out/Circulation Services

Oklahoma City University (OCU) students, faculty, and staff, OK-Share cardholders, and courtesy cardholders are allowed to check out items from the Dulaney-Browne Library. Most items can be checked out for a period of three weeks and can be renewed four times. OCU Faculty have a check out period of one year and can borrow up to 99 items at a time. OCU Undergraduate Students and staff are limited to 15 items, while Graduate Students can check out 25 items. OK-Share and courtesy cardholders can check out five items at one time. See the list below for items that may not be checked out.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) and reserve items have a $0.50 per day late fee. There are no late fees on any other items. However, if an item is returned more than 30 days late there is a $15 processing fee per late item.

OCU students, faculty, and staff use their OCU ID cards as their library cards. If you would like to apply for a courtesy card please visit the library circulation desk. For more information downlaod our courtesy card policy.

If we do not have the items you need we can borrow them from another library via interlibrary loan (ILL) or you can get an OK-Share card to check out items from other libraries. To request an item via ILL please visit theILL page.

The following items cannot be checked out and are for library use only:

  • Periodicals
  • 2 Hour Reserves
  • Microfilm/Microfiche
  • Newspapers
  • Reference Books
  • Archive Materials
  • Any item marked "Library use Only"

    Research/Instruction Services

    Reference librarians are available to help answer individual questions as well as give private research instruction to individuals and small groups. Click here to learn more about our research services.

    Off Campus Access

    You can search online journals and databases from home. Just use your OCU Network username and password to login from Off-Campus.

    Reserves

    The Dulaney-Browne Library, in partnership with the OCU faculty, provides an effective reserve material system to further the education of OCU students. Reserve materials are items professors place in the library for students to checkout for class assignments. The purpose of reserves is to make limited copies of required materials available to all students who will need them for a course. All reserve materials are located at the circulation desk.

    Document Delivery

    Faculty and staff may have materials owned by Dulaney-Browne Library delivered to their offices. By submitting a request from the DBL homepage, faculty and staff may request delivery of any book owned by DBL, and photocopies of articles contained within the library's periodical collection.     The library has a color printer/copier that can be used by anyone on campus. You can charge printouts (40 cents per color copy and 10 cent per B&W copy) to your department, pay cash, or pay with money deposited to your ID card. The printer address for sending print jobs is \\n5aa14\dbli192sv2824spf. Be sure to change the options to color and name your locked print job so that you can find and release it when you arrive in the library. The copier will also scan in black and white or color and send to any e-mail address. Ask for help at the library information desk if you need help with this feature.     Services for Patrons with Disabilities
    The Dulaney Browne Library offers assistance with library services for patrons with disabilities. The type and nature of the special assistance is usually determined by the request. While most special assistance can be given at the time of the request, it may be to your advantage to make an appointment for non-routine accommodations so that we may provide timely assistance.

    Room Reservations - Click here to view room availability.
    The library has several rooms that can be reserved for use at the circulation desk (405-208-5068) or by logging into the catalog (Internet Explorer ONLY) by following the links on the Room Availability Calendar.

    1st Floor Media Room (109) - Seats 1-3.  Includes TV/VCR, DVD player, , record player, and cassette player.
    2nd Floor Faculty Study Carrels (204 & 205) - FACULTY USE ONLY.
    5th Floor Study Rooms (510 & 511) - Seats 1-4, If a group of 5 or more requires the room the adjoining wall can be opened to combine rooms into one.  Includes flat-screen display with plug-in for laptop (cords and/or netbook available for checkout at circulation desk).

    The library has other rooms that can only reserved in person.  The library's 5th floor Honors Seminar Room (503) seats 24 and includes a laptop computer with wireless display, display camera, DVD player, VHS player, and 4 white boards.  Honors classes will take priority.  The library's computer instruction lab (18 computers, maximum capacity 36) can also be reserved, although limitations apply. The Priddy Classroom and the CETL Conference room on the 2nd floor are reserved through the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Consult the Room Use Policy for more information.

    Safety Escorts
    Safety Escorts are available through the O.C.U. Police Department. Officers will escort patrons from the library to parking lots, dormitories, or campus apartments.

    Media Listening and Viewing
    The library has a room available for students to watch videos or DVDs or listen to LPs or audio cassettes. Most of the library’s computers may also be used for watching DVDs or listening to CDs. Headphones are available for checkout at the circulation desk.

    Placing Holds/Recalls
    If an item is currently checked out to another person, you may request that it be held for you when it is returned to the library. You may place a "hold" on an item by either filling out a "hold" request form through the online catalog (Click on the "Request" button) or by asking at the Circulation Desk (208-5068).

    Book Sales
    The library holds major books sales at the beginning and end of each semester to sell donated, duplicate, and withdrawn books and magazines. Prices start at 50 cents for magazines.

    Newsletter
    The library publishes a monthly newsletter with library hours, news, a trivia contest and a Sudoku puzzle. Pick one up in the library or contact Victoria Swinney (vswinney@okcu.edu or 208-5072) to be added to the mailing list.
