SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL FOR VIOLIN, VIOLA AND CELLO
PROGRAM INFORMATION
Program length: 1 week

Cost: Commuter - $250. Includes daily meal(s).
Residential - $765. Includes tuition, food, and housing.
Audition required: Audition should consist of 3 to 6 minutes of your best playing recorded on CD or DVD. Please include one scale. Please include a letter of recommendation from your teacher with your application.
Age range: This program is open to collegiate undergraduates and high school students who will complete grades 9 - 12 during the 2011-12 school year. Younger students will be considered based upon audition.
Mailed applications will be accepted beginning December 1st, 2011.
OVERVIEW OCU Summer Music Festival for Strings is led by Bass School of Music faculty members Tomasz Zieba and Sam Formicola.
Classen Trio members, Sergio Monteiro, Sam Formicola, and Tomasz Zieba perform.
Tomasz Zieba is an Instructor of Cello at the Oklahoma City University, Wanda L. Bass School of Music. Born in Krakow, Poland, Zieba began his cello education at the age of seven at the Karlowicz School of Music. After graduating, he continued his cello studies at the Music Academy in Krakow under the instruction of Professor Henryk Zarzycki. In the United States, Mr. Zieba completed his Bachelor of Music degree at Texas Christian University and received the Artist Certificate Diploma and Masters of Music in Cello Performance from Southern Methodist University studying with John Burton, Ko Iwasaki, Christopher Adkins and Brinton Smith. In addition to his work at the Bass School of Music (OCU), Mr. Zieba holds the associate principal cello position with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. In the past he served as principal cellist of the Irving Symphony Orcheatra and co-principal with the Plano Symphony Orchestra. He has played with the New World Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Krakow Philharmonic Orchestra. As a recitalist, chamber musician and ensemble member Tomasz Zieba has performed and taught master classes in Poland, Spain, Austria, Germany, France, Mexico, Brazil and the United States. He also performs regularly as a member of the Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble in Oklahoma City, directs the OCU Cellovoce Ensemble and teaches at the European Musical Workshops in Kolobrzeg, Poland.
Samuel Formicola received his Bachelor of Music degree from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University in Houston, Texas, studying with Camilla Wicks. He later studied in Oslo, Norway, for two years earning an Artist Diploma degree at the Barratt-Dues Musikkinstitutt. While in Norway, he was concertmaster/conductor of his school's youth chamber orchestra, performed the Korngold violin concerto with the Stavanger Symphony, and held a position with the Oslo Philharmonic, touring extensively throughout Europe under the direction of Mariss Jansons. He later studied at the European Mozart Academy in Kraków, Poland, performing chamber works in Kraków, Prague and Florence. Currently a violinist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Adjunct Instructor of Violin at Oklahoma City University, Mr. Formicola has held positions with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra in Philadelphia, and has worked extensively with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He has also played with the L. A. Philharmonic, the L. A. Opera, and the San Diego Symphony. He has taught master classes in Oslo, Norway, at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, and Masterworks Festival in Indiana. Mr. Formicola has performed with pianist Menahem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio, pianist, Jeffrey Kahane, violinists Cho-Liang Lin and Scott Yoo, violist Paul Colleti, and cellist Alyssa Wellerstein. He has performed at the L. A. County Museum of Art on KMZT's live program, "Sundays Live" on several occasions. He worked in the Hollywood studios for the past 12 years, scoring over 200 films, playing on many records of top artists, and also appeared twice on the Grammy Awards.
DETAILS The OCU Performing Arts Academy Summer Music Festival for Strings is designed to provide expert training and performance experience in solo repertoire, string orchestra, and chamber music. Through instruction provided by our faculty you will be inspired and challenged to develop as a musician and a performer. Each student will participate in master classes and participate in a final concert on Friday, June 8 at 7pm.

Instrumental students who submit registration form and application fee by March 1st, 2012 receive 10% off their entire tuition. Early application also provides students with good financial aid consideration.
Registration deadline is May 1st. Applications received after this deadline will be considered late and the registration fee will be $45.
OCU Summer Music is pleased to offer a $75 scholarship to students selected to participate in their state's honor orchestra (All-State). Documented proof of participation/award required.
We are also pleased to offer the OCU Summer Music Program Youth Orchestra/Symphony Scholarship ($50) to students who are current members of a certified youth orchestra or symphony. Please contact our office at (405) 208-5410 for details.
