Welcome to Oklahoma City University School of Theatre Auditions!

We are excited to join you throughout this process. We understand that auditions/interviews are an exciting yet nervous time for both students and families. In order to minimize your anxiety, please consider that we understand that you are a developing performer, designer, or technician. We don't expect you to be perfect. Think about the audition process as an opportunity to share your talents with our faculty members. Don't think of it as a "life or death" situation. Be assured that the faculty listening to you is interested in you and your progress. We want you to feel at ease and to be able to perform to the best of your ability. We are on your side during this journey, and we want you to be successful!

Your fist step in the audition process is to apply to Oklahoma City University. You can do this online at OCU ADMISSIONS. There is an incredibly welcoming and able staff ready to assist you with any questions you may have with the university application. All you have to do is ask! After filling out the application for admission to Oklahoma City University, you need to fill out an Audition/Interview Request Form.

All students desiring to major in any of the following degree programs must fill out the Audition/Interview Request Form:

BFA Acting, BFA Theatre for Young Audiences, and BA Theatre Performance Audition Requirements

1. Candidates must perform, by memory, 2 contrasting monologues not to exceed three total minutes in length. Here are some helpful tips when choosing your monologues!
   • Monologues must come from published plays. You should read the plays in their entirety to help you with the context and character of the monologue.
   • Use contemporary material. Stay away from classical materials such as Shakespeare, Moliere, and the like.
   • Choose age appropriate material.
   • Do not audition with monologues from music theatre productions.
2. Candidates must bring with them a theatre resume, a recent headshot, and two letters of recommendation.
   • Do not worry if you do not have a long list of theatrical experiences for your resume. We are more interested in the progress you will make than what you've done in the past.
   • Make sure that your name is written on your headshot and resume. If they get separated, we want to make sure that we know who you are!
   • Letters of recommendation cannot come from family members. These should come from directors, coaches, administrators, teachers, or other adults who have worked closely with you and can speak of your work ethic, strengths, etc.
3. All candidates will have a short interview with the individuals viewing their auditions. We value your personality, attitude, and passion to learn just as much as we value your ability. This interview just gives us a chance to get to know you better!

BFA Theatre Design & Production Interview and Portfolio Review Requirements

1. Candidates must submit a portfolio for review.
   • Portfolio should demonstrate artistic ability or technical skills that are relevant to theatre design and production.
   • Examples of what to include in your portfolio could be but are not limited to photographs, drawings, paintings, audio recordings, any artwork or technical drawings, etc.
2. Candidates must submit a theatrical resume indicating any previous experience in theatrical production, community activities, and academic achievements.
3. Candidates must provide a writing sample. If you do not already have a writing sample prepared, you can submit an essay that tells us what your most challenging theatrical design or production problem has been and how you contributed to solving it.

We understand that by choosing to attend Oklahoma City University School of Theatre, you are making an investment in your education. In support of this, we also want to join you in this endeavor.

At the time of your audition and/or interview, you are automatically being considered for theatre scholarship opportunities. You will find out within one (1) month of your audition/interview whether or not you have been admitted to the Oklahoma City University School of Theatre. At that time, if you are admitted, you will also find out whether or not you will be receiving theatre scholarship.

Because we want to make college as affordable of an experience as possible, I also encourage you to contact the Office of Financial Aid to find out other scholarship opportunities for which you may be eligible. Oklahoma City University offers incredibly competitive academic scholarships based upon SAT/ACT scores.
