Judy Benson graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.A. in education. As a child advocate, she served on the Oklahoma Post Adjudication Review Board and the board of Prevent Child Abuse Oklahoma, founded the House of Representatives Campaign for OK Kids for child abuse prevention, and received the Silver Torch Award from the Boy Scouts of America.
Today, Benson is the Oklahoma Conference Lay Leader and is the South Central Jurisdiction (SCJ) Lay Leader. She serves on the National Association of Annual Conference Lay Leaders, SCJ Mission Council, SCJ Episcopacy Committee, and the Oklahoma United Methodist Foundation.
Benson has served on the advisory boards of the Perkins School of Theology and the Wimberly School of Religion, as a trustee for the Southern Methodist University Campus Ministry, and as a delegate to the World Council of Methodist Churches. Judy and her husband Loyd, an attorney, rancher and former Speaker of the House, live in Frederick. Together they have two sons, a daughter, and seven grandchildren.
