Welcome from the International Admissions Office! We are so happy you are joining the university family, and we look forward to your arrival. This information is intended to assist you with your travel to Oklahoma City University.
Special University Van Service
Oklahoma City University will provide its own van service from the airport during the enrollment period at the beginning of the semester. This is free of charge. However, there are no regularly scheduled pickups. If you would like to be picked up at the airport by OCU, you must email or fax your arrival information listed on the “
REQUIRED ARRIVAL INFORMATION.” E-mail this information to
iso@okcu.edu or fax to: 405-208-5946.
If you made prior arrangements to be picked up by OCU, after you arrive and have picked up your luggage, please go to The Traveler’s Aid desk located in the baggage claim area. This is where our OCU driver will look for you.
If you have not made prior pickup arrangements with OCU or if you would prefer, you can take the Airport Express Shuttle (blue vans with yellow lettering). There is a discount for OCU students.
University offices are open Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
Arrival at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City - Traveler’s Aid Assistance
- The Traveler’s Aid Desk is located in the baggage claim area next to the rental car counters. Hours are 10 am to 10 pm daily.
- Upon your arrival, please claim your baggage and proceed to the Traveler’s Aid desk.
- Tell the clerk at the Traveler's Aid desk that you are an Oklahoma City University international student awaiting pickup by an OCU driver (if you made prior arrangements).
- Wait in that area for a driver from Oklahoma City University (OCU). If you must leave the desk temporarily, give the clerk your name so they can alert the driver that you have stepped away from the desk.
- A driver will meet you at that location and take you to your destination. In most cases, University representatives will have an OCU name badge or carry a sign that displays "Oklahoma City University" or “OCU.”
- It will speed the process if you also look for the driver in order to help them locate you.
- Our drivers will check at the desk and look for university students in the immediate area. Please be patient until you have made a connection with our driver.
If your flight is delayed, please do the following:
- Upon your arrival, please claim your baggage and proceed to the Traveler’s Aid desk.
- If your delayed flight arrives between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday, ask the Traveler’s Aid desk to call the Oklahoma City University International Admissions Office at 405-208-5358.
- If your delayed flight arrives after 5 pm weekdays or during the weekend, you will need to make arrangements to stay at a hotel for at least one night. Hotel information is listed below.
- The Traveler’s Aid Desk can assist you in calling a hotel at which time you can make arrangements with the hotel to pick you up. If that is the case, you will also need to make arrangements with the hotel to take you to campus the following day if it is a weekday.
- If a hotel shuttle is not available, you may also take an Airport Express Shuttle to your hotel. These are blue vans with yellow wording, and they will give you a discount if you tell them you are an Oklahoma City University student.
- You may reach Airport Express Shuttle by calling 405-681-3311 or go to their website at http://www.taxivan.com for more information.
Arrival in January for the Spring Semester
Please note that the university is closed each year between December 24th and January 1st. All campus services, including housing, are closed during this time. We strongly advise you to plan your travel to arrive after January 1st. The International Admissions Office is able to assist you with hotel reservations at discounted rates for students. Please see the hotel information below or contact the International Admissions Office for assistance with hotel reservations.
Area Hotel Accommodations
Oklahoma City University does not have temporary housing available on campus. If you have not yet reported to us where you will stay the first night in Oklahoma City, please submit that information by email or fax so we can help you arrive at the correct destination if you make arrangements to be picked up by a university van. It is very important that we have this information in order to avoid long delays for you and other arriving students.
You may need to stay in a hotel if one of the following is the case:
- You have not yet made living arrangements.
- You are not able to move into your residence because of weekend or late hour of your arrival.
- You have missed pre-arranged OCU pickup and it is after university hours.
Inform the hotel clerk and shuttle driver that you are an Oklahoma City University international student to qualify for a hotel discount. If the hotel you contact has shuttle service, they will also transport you to the university campus between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm on weekdays.
The following hotels provide special rates for OCU students and can arrange full shuttle service to and from the airport and the university. Free continental breakfast is included in these rates:
Cambridge Inn, 7400 S. May Avenue (405-682-4521)
Click here to view more area hotels.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Airport shuttle and hotel costs are at the expense of the student, not the university. Please bring enough cash or a credit card to pay for a hotel stay, food, and shuttle transportation if those arrangements are necessary.
- Do not come to the university except between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. University offices are only open at these times.
Campus Housing
It is the responsibility of the student to find housing, make applications for
dormitories, make applications to
Cokesbury Court Apartments or find off-campus housing.
- You need to make these applications as far in advance as possible.
- The earlier you make your application for on-campus housing, the better your chances are of securing a room on campus.
- Please take note that a reservation will not be made on your behalf until you have returned the dorm or Cokesbury Court application along with the correct deposit.
- If you choose to live off campus and are over the age of 21, you will need to make all arrangements independently.
- If you do not make living arrangements prior to arriving in Oklahoma City, plan to stay at an area hotel until you have taken the necessary steps to arrange housing.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- To inquire about availability of dormitory rooms, please contact the Director of Housing, Mr. John Riggs at jriggs@okcu.edu.
- To inquire about the availability of Cokesbury Court Apartments, please call 405-530-8100 or email ocu@campushousing.com.
- OCU is not able to recommend or suggest apartment complexes to new students.
University Housing has specific times of operation, and students need to arrive on campus during those times. The only hours to check in for on-campus housing are as follows:
Residence Halls (dorms):
8 am – 10 pm Sunday - Saturday
Cokesbury Court Apartments:
8 am – 5:30 pm Monday – Friday
10 am – 2 pm Saturday
Closed Sunday
If you do not arrive during these times you will need to make arrangements to stay at a hotel. DO NOT come to campus. OCU Security will be required to call a taxi so you can stay at a hotel until the housing offices are open for check-in.
