All international students are required to purchase a University health insurance plan. The cost is about $575 per year regardless of when you enroll (terms of coverage are August to August). U.S. medical care can be very expensive. The insurance provides up to $50,000 in coverage including
Basic Accident - benefits are paid the same as sickness.
Dental - wisdom tooth extraction payable at $100 per tooth, $400 total maximum dental benefit, NO coverage for dental decay (cavities, root canals) or dental cleaning.
Vision - coverage for damage caused by an injury up to $5,000, NO coverage for routine eye exams, glasses, or contacts.
Pregnancy - Pregnancy expenses paid up to $5,000. You must be enrolled in school during the entire pregnancy for complete coverage.
The coverage is at 100% for illnesses and injuries up to $5,000 with additional coverage up to $50,000. This means that the insurance company pays 80% of expenses and students only pay 20% after the initial $5,000. *Please note that J-1 visa holders will be obligated to purchase this insurance if they do not have home insurance that will cover $50,000.
