Bachelor of Arts Degree - Liberal Studies Major
Organizational Communication
Oklahoma City University, through its School of Adult & Continuing Education offers the B.A. in Liberal Studies with a Concentration in Organizational Communications. This degree is designed for persons whose career goals entail expertise in oral and written communication within the modern organizational environment (e.g. business, church, military, non-profit organization). The36 credit hour major includes 21 hours of communications studies, business and leadership courses taught by Oklahoma City University faculty members from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Meinders School of Business.
Program Structure
Classes typically meet one evening a week for eight weeks during the spring and fall terms and for six weeks during the Summer I and Summer II sessions and begin every January, March, May, June, August and October. Students may begin course work in any session.

Required Courses for Organizational Communication Concentration (21 hrs.)
Interpersonal Communication (3 hrs.)
This course concerns communication between two persons and among small groups. Its focus is on issues of intimacy,power, and conflict resolution.
Small Group Communication (3 hrs.)
This course covers theory and practice of participation in problem solving conferences, techniques of leadership, and the dynamics of group interaction.
Principles of Management and Organizations (3 hrs.)
This course provides an in-depth study of the role of management in the business setting, as well as a study of the concepts and factors of human behavior in the organizational environment. Motivation and leadership are stressed. Included are the consideration of concepts of psychology and social psychology of the individual and thegroup as applicable to industrial organizations.
Principles of Public Relations (3 hrs.)
This course is designed to explain the origin, evolution, and nature of the profession, explore areas of knowledge vital to the public relations practitioner, and relate those areas of knowledge to practical applications. It investigates public opinion analysis, communications theory, and use of various kinds of research by the profession.
Organizational Innovation, Development and Change (3 hrs.)
This course identifies and describes the eight steps in organizational development interventions, describes the history of organizational development, conducts a “communication problem specific” literature review,and prepares a pre-training assessment.
Leadership (3 hrs.)
The purpose of this course is to prepare students to become effective leaders within the business enterprise.Focusing on current leadership theories and their application to the professional business community,the course includes the processes of leadership,the leader, the follower, and the situation.
Cross Cultural Management (3 hrs.)
This course provides students with an applied understanding of interpersonal management and the complexities associated with diversity in international management.Students will apply class discussion to actual business case situations.
