FACULTY CORNER
It is our honor to introduce all of you to the new Director of the PLUS Program, Dr. Leo Werneke, Professor of Philosophy. Dr. Werneke has taught in the PLUS Program for a number of years. He taught Modern Theologians as a weekend course in the spring semester, 2002, The Ethics of Communication in the accelerated, 8-week format, in spring, 2004 and in Summer I of 2007. Dr. Werneke has also taught two web-based classes, Philosophy of Culture, spring, 2006, and Introduction to Moral and Social Philosophy, spring, 2007. "I have always enjoyed interacting with the adult student population at OCU. They typically have had the kinds of life experiences that philosophers are talking about."
Dr. Werneke is a graduate of Oklahoma City University (BA, 1964), Northwestern University, Evanston, IL (MA, 1968), and The University of Dundee, Scotland (Ph.D., 1984). He joined the faculty of the Philosophy Department in the fall of 1968. From 1990-2000, Dr. Werneke served as Dean of the Petree College of Arts and Sciences and most recently, 2000-2006, he served as the Director of the Master of Liberal Arts Program, as well as Chair of the Philosophy Department.
Dr. Werneke was a member of the original design team that developed the Competency Based Degree Program, the original name for the PLUS Program, and remains an enthusiastic supporter of the program. "I am very lucky to have the work of Dr. Denise Short and her dedicated staff to build on. I hope to be able to continue the growth of the program both in terms of students, course offerings, and new areas of study."
