Indigenous Borders

Like the bigger project, Center for Borderlands Studies at OCU, this “Indigenous Borders” section seeks to feature current borderlands scholarship that has the tribes and peoples of indigenous borders in the U.S. as its focus. We think of such borders as being geographic such as tribal borders, but also cultural and metaphoric as well. Scholarship here examines issues that indigenous Americans confront as they cross geographic, cultural and/or metaphoric borders.

Our focus in intentionally broad to include those people who are from, those who have crossed through, and those most affected by the indigenous borders between locations and cultures. Scholarly projects found here are collaboratively developed with multimedia with the aim of humanizing and bringing to light what we see as important and often unseen performances and unheard histories.
