M.B.A. Global Programs & Opportunities

Oklahoma City University's Meinders School of Business can be appropriately characterized as a pioneer in internationalization of its mission, curriculum, students, and faculty. OCU was one of the first universities in the State of Oklahoma with comprehensive well-designed graduate and undergraduate programs in international business for all of its students. The structure of all degree programs have recently been enhanced to better prepare students for the challenges of a globalized business environment. In addition to traditional course offerings, the global M.B.A. has expanded to include periodic professional and executive conferences in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. Students are encouraged to attend these conferences and in some cases a portion or all of the expenses involved are underwritten by the Meinders School of Business.

OCU professors routinely travel around the world to teach and study the current global business developments. Domestic on-campus students are encouraged to take courses in foreign countries for all or part of their M.B.A. During the last three decades, more than two thousand executives in People's Republic of China, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Canada and United Kingdom have graduated from OCU's international M.B.A. programs in these countries.

Why the OCU M.B.A. Program?

• This unique program provides students with either a general M.B.A. field of study or the opportunity to specialize in specific disciplines. Additionally, it also provides the opportunity to develop expertise in an industry, country or a functional area of business expertise selected based on their own interest.

• Earn an M.B.A. while studying in another country from an accredited American University which is a pioneer in providing global business education.

• Establish a global business network with the professors and alumni of a university that has trained nearly 2000 managers in China and Asia.

• All courses are taught by qualified OCU Professors.

Mission

At the Meinders School of Business, faculty prepare students to become socially responsible leaders in a global economy through scholarship in business practice, teaching, learning, and the disciplines.

Globalization is one of the principles of the Meinders School of Business. As components of our Global Strategy, the following programs or projects may be identified as noteworthy specific initiatives designed for students to excel through international experience and exposure:

1. Overseas Programs
2. Foreign Language and Internship Opportunities
3. International Study Trips
4. Writing-across-the-curricula and Senior Theses with international themes
5. Global Alumni Reunions

1. Overseas Programs

Oklahoma City University has offered degree programs at the graduate level in different foreign countries including China, Singapore, Malaysia, United Kingdom and Canada. A generalist M.B.A. program with optional concentrations are offered (specializations may differ by location and cohort).

Overseas business programs and admissions are similar to Oklahoma on-campus M.B.A. programs. All of the courses are offered in English in cooperation with our partnering institution campuses. Instruction in the M.B.A. program is delivered by Meinders School of Business faculty traveling to each location. At the completion of the program, successful students will receive an M.B.A. degree from Oklahoma City University.

Students in the International M.B.A. program come from all over the world—China, United States, Canada, Singapore, and the European Union, to name a few. This life-changing, career-building program includes approximately 18 months (depending on the location and cohort) of high-quality instruction as well as the following:

• An orientation period

• 12 M.B.A. courses with the opportunity to add a specialization

• Foreign language and culture classes

• Field trips for cultural, civic, business, industry, and educational learning experiences

• Internship programs and special seminars

• Time to complete a comprehensive M.B.A. research project

2. Foreign Language and Internship Opportunities

Foreign language proficiency for graduate students is encouraged. Foreign Language studies in French, German, Spanish and Chinese are available at Oklahoma City University. For advanced students, who major in International Business Finance, International Marketing or Information Technology, internship opportunities may be arranged within the United States or in foreign countries where OCU is offering its overseas programs.

3. International Study Trips

During the last decade, Oklahoma City University has been offering courses and seminars designed to provide students with a better understanding of international business. These courses have been offered together with study trips to Europe and Asia that provide OCU students first hand study of the European Union, Asian business practices, leadership, world economy’s, and the business strategies of leading firms operating across the globe. International study trips are a component of MSB globalization strategy. These trips help students keep abreast of the rapidly changing market conditions in the global economy in which they will work. International study trips are available for undergraduate and graduate students.

4. Writing-across-the-curricula and Senior Thesis with International themes

All International Business M.B.A. concentrations require a final program thesis. The course is designed to offer an opportunity for writing across the curriculum. It is designed to allow students to develop competence and expertise in international aspects of an industry, a country or a functional area of business. The thesis course is usually taken at the last semester of studies as an integrating course. A comprehensive written report and an oral presentation are required. To fulfill the requirements of this course, OCU students routinely study and write their theses about different global industries, the financial markets of different countries or globalization strategies of various multinational firms. Both employers and former students specifically those involved with high level International Business often refer to the thesis project as the most valuable job preparation activity associated with their business careers.

5. Global Alumni Reunions

Meinders School of Business Alumni Associations in Canada, China, Malaysia and Singapore are strong, active and like to expand their relationships with the alumni associations in US and in other countries. OCU alumni associations have held global reunions. OCU alumni Associations in Singapore and in Malaysia organize Golf Tournaments and other charity events to raise money to provide scholarship and financial aid to students. In addition to on-campus student associations, OCU alumni in Singapore, China, Malaysia, and Canada and in some other countries have active associations and enjoy networking with each other.

Unique Features of the International M.B.A.

1. A high-quality M.B.A. degree with a concentration in finance (other concentrations may be available at various times at various locations)
2. Opportunities to develop expertise in doing business internationally
3. Internship experiences in multinational firms
4. Classes to learn foreign languages and international business cultures
