Overview of the International M.B.A. Program

The International M.B.A. program provides you with either a generalist M.B.A. or a concentration (depending on the location and specific cohort) and is focused on understanding the growing economic and political influence and business entities in the world economy.

All of the courses are offered in English and are taught by faculty of OCU’s Meinders School of Business traveling to that country location. At the completion of the program, successful students will receive an M.B.A. degree from Oklahoma City University.

Students in the International M.B.A. program come from all over the world—China, United States, Canada, Singapore, and the European Union, to name a few. This life-changing, career-building program includes approximately 18 months of high-quality instruction and includes:

An orientation period
The purpose of the orientation period is to cover prerequisite courses, provide more information about the Meinders School of Business, and introduce the program’s goals. Orientation classes are conducted jointly by OCU and our partnering institution’s professors or administrators. The objectives of this time are to help the student feel comfortable in new surroundings, prepare for the challenges of the program, and provide understanding of how this program can help achieve an individual’s career goals.

M.B.A. courses providing a generalist or specialization
The program consists of 12 courses for a generalist M.B.A. and 13 or more courses for a specialization. Each course consists of 10 days on site instruction and pre and post assignments. The entire course lasts about one month. Each course will provide approximately 40 hours of faculty contact time in the classroom. All International M.B.A. courses require pre-course readings and post-course projects. Classes meet at various times depending upon the cohorts work schedules. Students receive a course syllabus and learning materials for each course approximately one month prior to the beginning of course. Extensive preparation prior to the class is required.

Language and business culture classes for that country
Understanding the basic country culture as well as ethical and business values is critical for business success. The International M.B.A. program provides students with many opportunities to learn and understand the language, culture, and business practices of the host nation or region. During the orientation period students participate in language classes (if appropriate), business culture classes, visit historic sites, and listen to presentations by senior business managers as they tour businesses and production facilities.

Internship opportunities and participation in a variety of business seminars, workshops and field trips to learn about historic and modern achievements of that country
Internships and a variety of seminars and workshops allow students to apply theories learned in the classroom to a real world setting, build a work history for resumes, acquire practical, professional and personal skills, and gain a competitive edge in the job market.

Time to complete a comprehensive M.B.A. research project
Students in the International M.B.A. program are expected to develop a high level of expertise in a particular area of an industry according to their individual interests and objectives as they complete their degree requirements. They select an area of specialization, with the support and approval of their professors after completing most of the core courses, but before beginning the electives. Students are encouraged to select a business topic and a firm operating in the host country. After selecting an area of specialization, they will collect and study specific information and readings related to that area. The post-course project and research paper selected should focus on a designated area of specialization to help further develop their knowledge and expertise. The findings and results of that research project will be documented in a final, comprehensive M.B.A. project report that will be completed during the final capstone course of the International M.B.A. program.
