OCU : Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning

Faculty Teaching Academy

What is it?
The Faculty Teaching Academy is a professional enrichment program offered to all faculty (both full-time and adjunct) at Oklahoma City University by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Its purpose is to provide faculty with information, resources, and opportunities focused on enhancing and supporting effective teaching, integrating the arts across the curriculum, and promoting creativity in the classroom. Those who wish to actively participate in and commit involvement to CETL’s offerings are encouraged to become members of the Faculty Teaching Academy (FTA).

CETL workshops and activities are always open to all OCU faculty members. Those who successfully complete ALL the requirements for the FTA Certificate will be recognized for their achievement at the annual faculty awards luncheon (held in the spring) and receive a small stipend.

What are the requirements for certification?
There are three major components required for the FTA Certificate:

1. Workshop attendance
2. Involvement in either A) a teaching partnership or B) a CETL-sponsored faculty learning community
3. Attend a teaching portfolio training workshop offered by CETL and produce a teaching portfolio

How long will it take?
The program allows flexibility regarding the time commitment: the FTA Certificate can be completed in one to two years, depending on the participant’s schedule and desired pace.

How do I start?
Those wishing to pursue the FTA Certificate should declare their intent to do so in writing via a brief note sent to the CETL Director, Chris Garrett (office phone: 208-5581, email: cgarrett@okcu.edu)
