Priddy Fellows Learning Community

As part of OCU’s campus-wide initiative to infuse the arts across the curriculum, it is essential to prepare and develop faculty to be innovative teacher-leaders in this work of arts integration. Toward that end, approximately eight OCU faculty are selected annually from across the disciplines to participate in an intensive, year-long learning community. These Priddy Fellows meet weekly during the spring and fall semesters to examine different theories of teaching and learning that might improve their teaching and to explore ways to incorporate greater creativity and utilize appropriate technology into their courses. At the end of the spring semester, members of the Priddy Fellows Learning Community participate in a week-long arts immersion experience—past fellows have traveled to places such as Santa Fe, Chicago, and San Francisco. One of the outcomes of the learning community is that each Priddy Fellow will teach (or team-teach) a new course that incorporates the arts into his/her discipline. [Learn More about Priddy Fellows]

Faculty Learning Communities

  • Are you interested in receiving peer feedback on your scholarship before submitting it for publication or as a conference paper?

  • Or, are you interested in receiving peer feedback on innovative teaching strategies you’re using or considering implementing?

  • Would you like opportunities to meet and collaborate with faculty from across the campus?

    These needs can be met through your involvement in a Faculty Learning Community (FLC). A faculty learning community is a group of trans-disciplinary faculty, typically comprised of approximately 8-10 members who gather on a regular basis (usually at least once every 3 weeks). Faculty learning communities provide opportunities for learning, development, transdisciplinarity, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and community building. At OCU we have formed faculty learning communities focused on topics such as arts integration, the scholarship of teaching and learning, teaching with technology, and service learning.

    Choose the FLC topic that most interests you and complete the attached application for one of the following:
    1. Arts Integration Faculty Learning Community
    2. Service Learning Faculty Learning Community
    3. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Learning Community
    4. Teaching with Technology Faculty Learning Community

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    • Faculty learning communities (each consisting of about 8-10 OCU faculty) will meet approximately every three weeks during the semester.

    • The faculty learning community (FLC), led by its faculty facilitator, determines its own schedule and activities but may choose to meet to discuss selected readings, share ideas and projects, receive peer feedback, and attend activities together

    • Each FLC member should have a particular product or project he/she will work on and share with the FLC. Some examples could include: incorporating arts-integrated learning activities into course curriculum; designing a new course or enhancing an existing course; preparing a paper for publication or presentation at a conference; implementing new technology applications in your teaching.

    • Those faculty who actively participate in FLCs during the fall and spring semesters (2008-09) and who complete a designated project/product (as outlined above) will receive a small stipend ($250).
