The Day of Commencement

The undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies will be held in the Henry J. Freede Wellness and Activity Center on the Oklahoma City University campus.

Undergraduate Commencement | 11:00 a.m.

Graduate Commencement | 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Students should line up for the processional no later than 10:30 a.m. for the 11:00 undergraduate ceremony and no later than 2:30 p.m. for the 3:00 graduate ceremony. Signs will be hanging in the east and west hallways outside the arena to indicate where graduating students (organized by school and/or degree) should line up. Blue Tie Ambassadors will be in place to assist graduates and guests.

Undergraduates' tassels should be on the right side of the cap for the procession. Graduate degree recipients' tassels should be on the left side of the cap and hoods should be draped over the right forearm for the procession and the walk toward the stage.

In order to minimize confusion, guests are asked to seat themselves in the arena and not linger in the lobby and hallways prior to the ceremony.

Graduates are asked to remain outside of the arena until the procession begins.

Name Cards

You are required to present a name card as you walk across the stage during the commencement ceremony. On the day of commencement, graduates should pick up their name cards at the designated tables in the north lobby of Freede prior to lining up for the procession.

Alumni Association

Stop by the Alumni Association office on the third floor of the Ann Lacy Admissions and Visitor Center to pick up an application for membership in the Oklahoma City University Alumni Association, or use the online application.

Student Financial Accounts

Your account must be paid in full before you can receive your transcript and/or diploma. Students who have obtained a Perkins loan are required, by federal regulation, to complete an exit interview prior to graduation.

Financial Aid and Loan Information

Students who receive federal student loans are required by federal regulation to complete an exit interview/debt management session prior to graduation. This requirement may be fulfilled online at https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action. You will log in using your FAFSA PIN. This same Web site is a great resource to track all of your student loans indefinitely.

Housing Checkout

Students participating in the May commencement ceremonies should check out from their campus housing no later than 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6. Requests to stay as late as Monday, May 7 will be considered on an individual basis. Students may submit a request to stay until Monday by contacting their head resident. All candidates must notify their head resident that they will be staying past the normal check out time (Friday, May 4 at 5 p.m.).

Library Materials

All library materials should be returned and any fines or fees paid no later than the last day of the semester, Friday, May 4. A hold will be placed on your account (including transcripts) if any materials are not returned or if fines or fees of $5.00 or more have not been paid.

Mail Center

It is the responsibility of campus residents to provide change of address information to all of their correspondents including both personal contacts (friends/family members) and business contacts (banks, credit card providers, magazines). The U.S. Post Office will NOT forward student mail.

Student Survey

Graduating students have the opportunity to evaluate OCU’s programs and services. The survey is paper-based and will be sent to students' academic advisors. All responses are anonymous.
