Julie Russell is currently an Assistant Professor of Dance teaching tap, ballet, and jazz to the Basic and Beyond Basic Movement dance classes. She is a native of Dallas, Texas and has been dancing as long as she can remember. Over the course of her training, Julie has studied dance extensively in the areas of jazz, tap, ballet, and musical theater. She furthered her education by attending summer intensives such as Tulsa Ballet and Broadway Theater Project. Julie trained with the Dallas Repertoire Ballet and has performed across the Dallas area with theaters such as Garland Summer Musicals, Plano Repertory Theater, and Garland Civic Theater. She has also had extensive experience performing for several industrial shows including Mary Kay, Avon, Sally Beauty, and MAC cosmetics.
Julie graduated with Honors from Oklahoma City University’s Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management with a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Dance Management. During her time at OCU, she has performed in several productions with American Spirit Dance Company in their Home For the Holidays and Spring Show performances as well as the Choreography Show. Julie made her directorial debut with her thesis production, Imagine This!, where she served as artistic director and choreographer. Julie has been seen in the Dallas/Fort Worth area choreographing and teaching Ballet and Body Conditioning at Richland College and hosting jazz master classes at Tarrant County College and Collin County College campuses.
