Oklahoma City University's American Spirit Dance Company in Yuletide Magic

Oklahoma City University's American Spirit Dance Company will once again dazzle its audiences, providing entertainment for the whole family in Yuletide Magic, presented by the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra. For nine performances, the 150 member company, under the direction of Jo Rowan, will bring the magic of the Christmas Season to life on the stage at the Rose State College Performing Arts Theatre.

Yuletide Magic is a holiday extravaganza featuring 26 show-stopping numbers. From the always-popular "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" and the Rockette-style kickline, "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town," to the mystical "Lux Aeterna" and the heart-warming "Let There Be Peace on Earth," Yuletide Magic truly offers something for all tastes. Rowan commented, "I think people want to experience warmth and peace during the very coldest time of the year. Our Christmas extravaganza is directed with that in mind. We try to entertain the whole family with lavish production numbers which not only entertain but bring the joys of the season to our audience. Grandpa, grandma, mom and dad, their teen-age kids and the little ones will find something they love in the show. We have a kickline for the guys, and ballet for mom, songs and dances that 'swing' or 'rock and roll' into the Christmas Season. And, of course, we never forget the reason for this beautiful time of the year. We always end with a spiritual section of thanksgiving and peace."

Yuletide Magic features nearly 300 performers, 600 costumes, and 4 principal vocalists. Rowan and her six faculty choreographers set and stage Yuletide Magic in the equivalent time of 10 Equity (8 hour rehearsal) days. Dancers and choreographers rehearse 2 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 10 weeks with a resulting production similar to the gigantic Radio City Christmas Show.

Performances for Yuletide Magic will be held at Rose State College Performing Arts Theatre on the following dates:

  • Thursday, November 30 at 8:00 pm
  • Friday, December 1 at 8:30 pm
  • Saturday, December 2 at 2:00 and 8:30 pm
