Admission into the Smokewood Institute for Young Writers is selective. We are looking for students who are bright and diligent, and this should be reflected in their application.
The cost of the program is $1400, including the 3-credit course, room and board, and all extracurricular activities. Scholarships for half-tuition are available. To be eligible for a scholarship, you must apply on or before May 15, 2015.
The application must include:
Letter of interest explaining why you think you would be a good fit, what you hope to offer, and what you would like to get out of the experience.
Writing sample of 5-6 pages, double-spaced. If you are submitting poetry, your poems should be no longer than 1 page each.
Recommendation form, completed by a teacher who knows you — download
Note: If you choose to complete the General Information form online, you will be prompted to supply the email address of your recommender so that we can send him or her the form directly. We encourage you to let your recommender know to watch for an email from us.
