Are you interested in the natural world around you? Do you find that studying the relationships between microbes and humans is exciting, and that understanding these interactions enriches your life? Are you interested in learning more about ecology and environmental issues? Do you want to work towards an economically and ecologically sustainable future for all of mankind and the creatures of the Earth? If you can answer yes to these questions then a major in Environmental Studies may be for you.

Beginning in January, 2008, students may major in Environmental Studies at Oklahoma City University. This new degree program, approved by the Oklahoma City University Trustees in November 2007, marks an important first for our university, for our community, and for our students.

While the Environmental Studies major calls the Department of Biology home, it is far from being just a biology degree. This major, which has been in the planning process for over three years, incorporates courses from biology, chemistry, history, political science, and economics, plus new courses in geology and environmental chemistry, and is intended to provide students with the interdisciplinary knowledge and expertise to become effective and knowledgeable agents for change in the complex world that characterizes the start of the 21st century.
