MS in Exercise & Sport Science

The Master of Science in Exercise & Sport Science is designed for students seeking evidence-­-based instruction and focused training in the specialized areas of clinical exercise physiology, sport performance enhancement, and health & fitness promotion. The primary objective of advancing knowledge, skills, and abilities will prepare students for successful careers in the fields of Sports Medicine and Exercise Science.

Curriculum (36 Hours)

All courses are taught in the evenings, welcoming both traditional and nontraditional students. A variety of research interests within the fields of Sports Medicine and Exercise Science are encouraged, with emphasis in the specialty areas of exercise physiology, sport performance, and health promotion. Students interested in cancer research will have the opportunity to participate in the Cancer Control Research Apprenticeship Program.

3 credits                   Advanced Exercise Physiology

Year 1: Spring Semester

3 credits                   Behavioral Aspects of Physical Activity

3 credits                   Advanced Human Nutrition

3 credits                   Thesis/Project Preparation

Year 2: Fall Semester

3 credits                   Advanced Sport and Exercise Psychology

3 credits                   Advanced Concepts in Strength and Conditioning

3 credits                   Rehabilitative Exercise for Special Populations

Year 2: Spring Semester

3 credits                   Advanced Wellness Programming and Exercise Prescription

6 credits                   Master’s Thesis or Project in Exercise Science

Admission Requirements

Early applications and students meeting all requirements will receive admission priority. Students not meeting requirements will be considered and students may qualify for conditional or provisional admission, pending the total number of applications.

  • OCU graduate school acceptance

  • 4-year accredited bachelor’s degree

  • 24 credit hours in Exercise Science

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale)

  • GRE (minimum dependent on GPA)

  • 550 TOEFL (international students)

  • Application essay (500 words maximum)

  • 2 letters of recommendation

  • Interview (optional)
