EXPLANATION OF FEES

Academic Enrichment Fee – A fee used to cover the cost of assessment of academic programs and to provide funds for enrichment programs, such as improving student learning, promoting undergraduate research, and other activities to enhance the quality of the education of our students.

Accompanist Fee - Vocal students pay a standard fee for accompanists’ services as part of their applied lessons. This fee covers accompanists’ services for studio lessons, master classes, and juries for the two credit hour students, and studio lessons and juries for one credit hour students.

Application Fee - This fee accompanies a student’s application for admission to OCU.

Athletic Fee - This fee sustains and enhances University Athletics, facilities needs, process and personnel to deliver high quality Athletic events and programs.

Comprehensive Records Fee – A fee charged one time per degree earned at OCU. This fee covers a wide range of individual costs including add/drop of classes, transcripts, ID cards, and the provision of online student payment systems and statements.

Deferred Payment Plan Fee - This fee is charged to international students who use the payment plan. All students on plan (including by default those not making full payment by required date) pay a fee and a deposit. The deposit is refundable when the student meets terms of the plan and requests return of deposit.

Dulaney-Browne Library Fee - This fee supports the collections, facilities, and services of the Dulaney-Browne Library, including the costs of online computerized library services available to all students both on and off campus. This fee does not apply to law students.

Facilities Fee - This fee is used for the purpose of improving and enhancing the campus grounds and facilities.

Finance Fee - All charges on the student’s account will be due and payable on the first day of class according to the academic calendar. This fee is a one time charge per semester on the remaining balance after the first payment is made, less any anticipated financial aid on the account. Signed over work-study will not be considered payment until it is actually worked and applied to the student account. This fee will be waived if payment in full is received by the first payment due date.

First-Year Experience Fee - Charged to all new full time freshman and transfer students in the fall. The fee covers the costs of providing weeklong orientation activities (food, events, speakers, trips, etc.).

International Fee - Covers the special costs of providing VISA, immigration issues to international students and the special costs of SEVIS database, personnel to coordinate SEVIS activities, etc.

Lab and Class Fee - Each school or department determines and sets the class fees based on their needs for lab supplies, consumable items used by students, etc. This money flows back to the department to provide adequate supplies for their department’s students.

Late Registration Fee, Late Payment Fee, Returned Check Fee - This fee is charged to students when applicable.

Law Graduation Fee - Graduation fees are used to cover the following costs: diploma printing, mailing and handling fees (postage and mailer costs), commencement ceremony (whether or not student participates) and the diploma cover.

Music Facilities Fee – Music majors will be assessed a facilities fee each semester to help provide for the needs of a highly specialized music facility.

Music Fee - This fee is charged to all students enrolled in applied music courses.

Parking and Security Fee - This fee is charged to students, faculty and staff who wish to park their motor vehicles on campus. All students, faculty and staff who have motor vehicles and park them on campus must pay the parking fee, obtain the university parking permit and display it per instructions on their vehicle at all times.

Safety & Crisis Preparedness Fee - This fee is used for the purpose of sustaining and enhancing campus safety and crisis preparedness.

Stars Bucks - Stars Bucks are a convenient way to save money in Alvin’s or the Cafeteria. Food purchases made with Stars Bucks are not subject to sales tax saving more than 8% on every purchase. Unused Stars Bucks expire at the end of each spring semester.

Student Service Fee - This fee provides funding support for Student Health Services, Career Services, Counseling Services, Student Activities, Campus Traditions, Intramural and Recreational Sports,Student Government Association, Constellation Yearbook and Campus Student Newspaper.

Technology Fee - This fee provides funding to cover many items including but not limited to: the cost of Microsoft and McAfee licenses OCU must purchase on behalf of each student, T1 line for internet bandwidth connectivity for each student, funding for the open access computer labs, classroom technology, help desk, Banner software conversion cost, printing allowances and telephone support services.
