Team members gain valuable experience at first tournament of the year

Traveling to Bethel College in Newton, KS for the first tournament of the year taught the OCU Forensic/Debate team they can compete and be successful this year.

While no member from the OCU team placed in the top 3 catagories in the events they participated in, the team overall received good encouraging remarks from judges who indicated they demonstrated great potential.

The catagories they participated in were Extemporaneous speaking, Impromptu speaking, Poetry Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation and Persuasive speaking.

The team is gearing up for their next tournament at the University of Oklahoma November 3-4.

Forensic team celebrates earning their 3rd place finish

The weekend of November 3-4 at the University of Oklahoma, Dramatic Duo performers Nathan Brauner and Andi Dema placed 6th and 3rd at the Crimson Classic Tournament.

The 6th place finish on Saturday provided the encouragement to worker harder on Sunday. That hard work paid off with a 3rd place finish.

Since the tournament was sanctioned, the 3rd place finish means the duo need two more finishes of 2nd place or higher to qualify for the national tournament in Georga in the spring of 2007.

Brauner 5th, OCU 2nd in state!

At the 7th annual Cameron Christmas Classic Speech and Debate Tournament during the weekend of December 1-3, Nathan Brauner placed 5th in the Dramatic Interpretation catagory.

The OCU Forensic team overall picked up hardware as well. The team earned a 2nd place finish in the Oklahoma Sweepstakes, a competition that is between the Oklahoma schools entered in the Cameron tournament.

The next competition for the team is the Lubbock or Leave it Swing at Texas Tech Univesity in Lubbock, Texas, January 26-28, 2007.

Bad weather cancels trip to Texas Tech...

Due to bad weather, the OCU Forensicators were unable to make the trip to Texas Tech University to participate in the Lubbock or Leave it Swing tournament January 27-28 in Lubbock, TX.

It would have marked the debut of two new Forensicators to the team, Jose Andrade and Kwaku Aboagye-Adjei. Both were slated to perform in the Extemporaneous speaking catagory.

Sweetheart Swing not so sweet for OCU

The Sweetheart Swing tournament February 10-11 at the University of Oklahoma proved to be very competitive for the young OCU Forensicators.

With the addition of Jose Andrade performing in the Extemp catagory for the first time this season, the team was not able to place in the top three in any of the catagories, thus eliminating them from performing in the national tournament.

Although the Dramatic Duo team of Nathan Brunner and Andi Dema did make the final round on Sunday's swing hosted by West Texas A&M University, unfortunately they placed fourth after going seconds over their allotted performance time.

While the season didn't net any national recognition, the team is comprised of freshman and sophmores. They now have a full season of competition under their belt and that should prove to make them a better team in 2007-08.

Student wins competition

April 19, 2008 - Religion/philosophy freshman Christian Balden made history by competing in the American Forensic Association’s National Individual Events Tournament. He was the first OCU student to compete in the prestigious competition. Balden was selected to compete in the impromptu and extemporaneous speaking events.
