LIGHT THE CAMPUS 2009

Celebrating its ninth year, Oklahoma City University’s Light The Campus event will be held Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009. The occasion marks the beginning of the holiday season with a free evening of food, crafts, holiday dinner, and decorating the campus, as well as observing the spirit of giving. Those attending are encouraged to bring donations of food, clothing, and toys for the university’s chosen charities, the Skyline Urban Ministries and the Exodus House. The evening begins with crafts, pictures with Santa and Miss OCU, and a holiday dinner before the trumpeter’s call to chapel. The program continues with a candlelight processional and caroling to the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel, and concludes with the Hanging of the Greens and a chapel service. All are welcome and invited to attend.

3:00-6:00 pm - Free Photos with Santa

4:00-5:45 pm - Children's Fun Fest: Holiday crafts for children, refreshments, music, party favors and more.

5:00-6:00 pm - OCU Holiday Dinner and Program
Enjoy a festive progressive dinner at food stations. Entertainment provided by the Wanda L. Bass School of Music students.

6:15 pm - Trumpeter's call to the Candlelight Processional

6:30 pm - 7:15 pm - Hanging of the Greens in the Sanctuary, Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel. A beautiful and joyful way to welcome the Advent Season with scriptures, song and dance.

Skyline Urban Ministries
Founded in 1974 as a mission of the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church, Skyline Urban Ministries is committed to assisting the less fortunate of the community and to using the church’s power to eradicate poverty in Oklahoma City. With a wide variety of initiatives including a food pantry, after school care, eye clinics, providing clothing, and hot meals programs, Skyline gives families much needed access to care and support they are normally unable to obtain. In 2008 the mission served more than 14,500 individuals through the food pantry, performed 529 eye exams, provided clothing to approximately 2,500 clients, and served over 46,000 hot meals. Exodus House
Established in 1998, the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church’s Exodus House is dedicated to helping individuals recently released from prison to reintegrate into society. The House provides fully furnished apartments to these individuals and their families free of charge, except for electricity costs. Residents are allowed to stay for up to six months, and are permitted to take all of the contents of the apartment when they move. Initially opening with 10 residents, the House has grown to 15 individuals in 12 apartments, and a total of 45 residents have graduated from the program.
