Licensed Legal Intern Program
Oklahoma's Licensed Legal Intern Program is designed to provide supervised practical skills training in trial advocacy and professional ethics to law students who have registered with the Oklahoma Board of Bar Examiners and graduates that have applied to take the first Oklahoma bar examination after graduation. Upon completion of 50 Juris Doctor credit hours, students may obtain a limited license to practice law in the state of Oklahoma. After being sworn in, they are allowed to work on actual court cases under the supervision of licensed attorneys. In addition to receiving invaluable work experience while in law school that help students "hit the ground running" after graduation, there are other benefits to having a limited license. Graduates may continue working as licensed legal interns while studying for the Bar, and awaiting the exam results. And those who do not pass the Bar may petition for an extension of the license in order to continue working as licensed legal interns while preparing for the next Bar exam. This opportunity should not be considered only by those who plan to take the Oklahoma bar examination. Many students that have gone to other states after graduation have benefited greatly by participating in this program and possess solid marketable skills to pitch to out-of-state employers.
