Timelines for Career Planning and Student Preparation
Explaining how and when employers go about their hiring processes could probably best be summed up with a quote from Sir Winston Churchill, it is a "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma."
It is this "riddle" that perplexes and sometimes paralyzes students as they operate without relevant information that sheds light on how and when hiring processes take place. An antidote to this is understanding general timelines that are observed by employers who hire law students and graduates. In order for students to develop as professionals in the legal sector and obtain career success during and beyond law school, managing time and obligations becomes of paramount importance.
Timelines that cover a typical full-time, three year period (Day and Sunset Division) and a part-time, four year period of law school attendance are outlined and detailed information available as links on the left-hand side of this Web page. In addition to the general information for the fall/spring semesters and the winter and summer break periods, specific timelines covering broad areas of law and practice also are offered.
