PETITION INFORMATION & FORMS
Information on Submitting Petitions to the Associate Dean for Students and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs:
The following student requests (among others) must be approved by the Associate Dean for Students:
1. Request to drop a fixed, required course
2. Request to change sections of a fixed, required course
3. Request to change divisions (i.e., evening to day)
4. Request for a leave of absence
The following student requests must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs:
1. Request for an overload
2. Request for an underload
3. Request for an exception to the outside employment rule
4. Request to take summer classes at another law school or to participate in another law school's summer abroad program*
*Requests to take courses during the regular academic year at another law school must be approved by the Petitions and Retention Committee, not the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. A student in good standing seeking to enroll in one of the summer abroad programs that OCU LAW co-sponsors with Stetson University College of Law does not need to submit a petition, simply turn in a program application to Jordan King in the Dean's Office.
The student should describe his or her request in detail on the petition, attaching supporting documentation (for example, medical documentation) if appropriate.
If your request must be approved by the Associate Dean for Students, please turn in your completed petition to the Student Services Office or e-mail it to Saundra Miller (208-5355).
If your request must be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, please turn in your completed petition to the Student Services Office, the Dean's Office, or e-mail it to lawaa@okcu.edu (208-5877).
Occasionally, Dean Fathree or Dean Laity will contact a student for further information or to set up a meeting to talk about a petition, so please make sure to include your phone number(s) on the petition form. However, most petitions are handled without further contact.
