ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Welcome to the Oklahoma City University ("OCU") School of Law. Your decision to study law at OCU exemplifies your commitment to the legal profession and to your community. You should expect that your journey through law school will be both challenging and extremely rewarding. The Department of Academic Achievement, like a compass, is here to guide you on that journey.
The Department of Academic Achievement administers programs to assist students during law school, and with the transition from the classroom to professional life. The Department of Academic Achievement provides all students with the opportunity to “Study for Success” while in law school, and to ultimately “Conquer the Bar.”
The Study for Success Program consists of three components: (1) Supplemental Instruction (“SI”) Workshops; (2) Critical Skills Instructional (“CSI”) Workshops; and (3) Individual Programs (“IPs”). The “Conquer the Bar” program helps prepare students to take their state bar examination. The program is available to all students and begins during the last semester of law school and continues through the administration of the examination.
Individual assistance from the Department of Academic Achievement is available to eligible students. Interested students should contact the Director of Academic Achievement. Eligibility for participation in the IPs is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
The Department also provides academic counseling and mentoring to students on an individual basis, coordinates student teaching assistants and tutors, and monitors the individual academic progress of participants graduating from the Alternative Summer Admissions Program (“ASAP”).
I hope that you will take advantage of the many opportunities for academic growth that the Department of Academic Achievement offers during law school. I personally look forward to working with you to help you realize your goals. At this arduous and worthwhile journey’s end, you will find yourselves members of a distinguished and noble profession.
Ad astra per aspera – to the stars through hard work… together we can achieve great things.
Sincerely,
Robert Coulthard, Director
Department of Academic Achievement.
