APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to law school is a competitive and selective process. Take the time to educate yourself about the admissions process and requirements. It is important to respond fully and persuasively to all the questions posed on the application and submit all required documents in a timely manner to enhance your chances for a favorable decision.

APPLICATION OPTIONS

In addition to documents required for application review, you are invited to submit an optional Values Statement, optional supplemental addendums, and to schedule a personal interview.

triangleapplication fee and fee waivers

Each applicant is assessed a non-refundable, $50 application fee. If you have received a fee waiver for the LSAT, you may apply online and your application fee will be waived.

trianglebachelor's degree (required)

To be considered for admission, Oklahoma City University requires that all applicants have earned a baccalaureate degree from an accredited school prior to matriculation.

undergraduate degree (required)

We do not require prerequisites or a particular major. However, it is important that your undergraduate and/or graduate work has prepared you with the analytical, problem-solving, writing, and research skills needed by law students.

As you select electives, or perhaps your major, you may want to consider coursework that exposes you to basic theories of justice and ethics, to the historical development of the American legal system; to the interaction between economic, social and politics with the legal system; to the development and composition of the American judicial system, and courses that that offer ways of understanding human behavior and diverse cultures. Such information may be found in a variety of social science and humanities courses from philosophy to economics to political science.

personal statement (required)

The personal statement should be two pages, double-spaced and should be submitted with your application.

OCU LAW seeks serious, motivated students with the requisite intellectual and academic skills to successfully manage the coursework of a professional level curriculum. In reviewing applications, we seek students who value education, who possess clear reasons for pursuing an advanced degree, who demonstrate a well-developed work ethic, who have a record of service and leadership within their community, and who demonstrate a clear commitment to the values and ethics of the legal profession.

Use your personal statement to share your motivations, to demonstrate your preparation, to tell us who you are and about the experiences, people, or values that helped shape your character.

resume (required)

OCU LAW requires a professional resume with your application.  This is your opportunity to provide information about your work experience, leadership, service, hobbies, or other indicators of your preparation for law school.  If you have never written a resume, we encourage you to seek assistance from your undergraduate career services office.

addendums (required based upon responses to questions)

If you answer in the affirmative to question 31, 32, 33, or 34 on the application, an addendum must be submitted that includes the circumstances (time, date, descriptive statement) of the incident in question.   If you fail to provide sufficient detail, you will be contacted and your application will be held pending receipt of the requested information. Failure to disclose information about these questions could result in immediate withdrawal of an offer of acceptance or dismissal after matriculation.

supplemental addendums (optional)

If you have a below average LSAT or GPA, and answer yes to questions 43 or 44, you should provide an addendum that addresses factors that affected your undergraduate performance and that will provide context to our evaluation of your LSAT performance.  Failure to address these factors may negatively impact the review of your file.  If you answer in the affirmative to question 45, we strongly recommend that you address economic, cultural, or social factors that presented obstacles you overcame as you pursued your education.

triangleLSAT (required)

The LSAT is a half-day standardized test required for admission to all ABA accredited law schools. It provides a standard measure of reading and verbal reasoning skills that law schools can use as one of several factors in assessing applicants. The test is administered four times a year at hundreds of locations around the world by the Law School Admissions Council.  OCU LAW will accept LSAT scores that have been taken within the last five years.  If your score was earned before that time, please plan to take a future administration of the test.

letters of recommendation (required)

OCU requires that two letters of recommendation are submitted to the Law School Data Assembly Service.  However if you plan to apply for the Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship, you will be required to submit three letters.

Choose recommenders who can tell us about your potential for success as a law student.  Faculty are interested in hearing from someone who can speak to your analytical, problem solving, critical reading, writing and research skills.  References should also address your work ethic and/or classroom participation.

Remember!  We are more interested in what your reference can tell us about you, than with the credentials of the writer. Choose someone who knows you well and can provide a strong, helpful recommendation advocating for your admission to law school.

If you are currently enrolled in school or a recent graduate, we strongly suggest that you secure references from one and preferably two professors or instructors that speak to your performance in the classroom.

If you have been away from the classroom, letters from employers or those who know your communication skills and your ability to research, write, and solve problems will serve you well.

LSDAS (required)

All applicants to OCU LAW are required to subscribe to the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS). The LSDAS report will be forwarded to OCU after your LSAT score(s) post and after the LSDAS receives the following:

Official transcripts from each undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended.

A minimum of two letters of recommendations.

The LSDAS report provides biographical information, a year by year summary of your undergraduate grades and credits, copies of all transcripts, copies of up to three letters of recommendation, a record of prior matriculation to law school, notation of any academic misconduct or irregularity, and an admissions index.

trianglevalues statement (optional)

The faculty at Oklahoma City University School of Law has adopted Academic Excellence, Service, Personal Attention, Practical Skills, Diversity and Professional Ethics as our core values.  We seek students who share these values.  Your are invited to submit an optional Values Statement.  Just choose one of the OCU LAW core values and tell us why that value is something you seek in a law school or tell us about how you have incorporated that value in your own life.
