Part-time Program and Schedule Information

OCU offers law students the option of completing their law degree by attending part-time. Part-time students may complete their degree at a flexible pace running from three and one-half to five years and may enroll part-time in either day or evening classes.  Part-time students participate fully in the life of the law school, including student government as well as co-curricular and extracurricular activities.

Is there a different application process for part-time students? No.  Part-time students complete the same application as applicants applying for the full-time program and they are reviewed and admitted using the same criteria for admission.  Apply Now.

What time are classes held for part-time students? Evening classes typically begin at 6pm and end by 9pm and are held Monday through Thursday.  Part-time day classes are generally scheduled between 9am and 3pm.  Sample schedules.

How long will it take to complete law school if I attend part-time?   Part-time students take anywhere from three years to five years to complete the program.  The length of time needed is dependent upon whether students attend during the summer and whether they remain part-time students throughout the duration of the program (many law students will complete one or two years while attending part-time and then choose a full-time schedule as they get closer to graduation).

Is financial aid available to part-time students? Yes, both federal and private loans are available for qualified students.  Please contact Jennifer Killman, Senior Loan Counselor, at 405.521.5419, or jkillman@okcu.edu with financial aid questions.

Are part-time students eligible for scholarships?  Part-time students are not eligible for scholarships during their first academic year but will have opportunities to apply for awards as continuing students. .

If I begin law school as a part-time student, may I choose to attend
full-time at a later date?
This depends on space availability. For the last two entering classes,  we have not been able to move students to full-time status until their required courses are completed due to the size of the entering classes. You should plan on staying in the part-time division until all required courses are completed.

Do most part-time students work full time?

The majority work full or part-time. Some students do not work but prefer the lighter course load that the evening program allows.

What are the cost differences for part-time students?

The tuition is the same rate per credit hour whether a student attends full or part-time. Student fees are also the same.

How many days per week do part-time students attend class?

Evening students attend Monday through Thursday evenings.  Part-Time Day students typically attend classes Monday through Friday.  Sample Schedules.

Who teaches the evening courses for part-time students?

The same full-time faculty who teach during the day rotate the evening teaching responsibilities. Full-time faculty members teach all required
courses in both the full and the part-time divisions.

What kinds of student services are available for part-time students?

Part-time students have access to all of the same student services.  Since part-time evening students may not be able to transact necessary business at the law school during the day, the Student Services Office and the Professional and Career Development Center are open until 6pm Monday through Thursday and open until 10pm each Tuesday to specifically address the needs of our evening students.

Student organizations are also sensitive to the needs and schedules of evening students. Student organization meetings are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. so that evening students have an opportunity to attend and participate.  Speakers invited to the law school are scheduled at 5:00 p.m. or at noon, for the same reason.
