Frequently Asked Questions
All questions pertaining to computer use in the law computer labs can, and should, be given to a lab monitor. If a lab monitor is unavailable, special telephones have been placed in each law computer lab for assistance with computer questions. The lab monitor is usually sitting at the South end of Lab #1 with a sign labeled "Lab Monitor."

How do I print to a lab printer? - back to top
The lab printer has already been set up on all lab PCs. It is your default printer. Anytime you hit the print button, your page(s) will be sent to the lab printer closest to your computer. If you are in LEXIS or Westlaw and you hit the print button (or do a File + Print command from the drop down menus), you will be printing to the lab printer. It is not a good idea to print to the lab printer from Westlaw or LEXIS, since you are only allowed to print 250 sheets of paper each week. How do I print Westlaw and LEXIS documents? - back to top
Printing Westlaw and LEXIS documents
Click on "Print" from inside the LEXIS or Westlaw screen and select the "stand alone" printers.
(Warning: If you use File + Print from the top of the web browser, you will send your print jobs to one of the lab printers, and those pages will be charged against your weekly limit of 250 pages.)
I sent a document to print and nothing came out, what do I do? - back to top
DO NOT hit print two more times to see if that will fix your problem. Sending the same print request several times accomplishes two things, neither of which will benefit you: 1. It further delays ALL the print jobs in the Lab, including yours. 2. It deducts all of those pages (even the duplicates) from your 250 page weekly allotment. From time to time, with no rhyme or reason, print jobs become paused. It can take up to 10 minutes for the system to realize that this has happened and correct it.
Every time I print from Westlaw I get a message that tells me my page quota has been reduced. Don't I get unlimited printing on Westlaw? - back to top
When printing to the Westlaw printers, you won't get a pop-up message about your print quota. However, being logged in to Westlaw is no guarantee that you will be printing to the Westlaw printers. If you are receiving a pop-up message about print quotas, then you aren't printing to the Westlaw printers. Please see a lab monitor or one of the LTS staff about this and they will get you squared away.
I can't print anything, what do I do? - back to top
This is due to an error, which is beyond your control. Contact Lab personnel or someone at the Circulation desk, and tell them your problem. You will be asked to supply whoever you speak to with your log on name. Under NO circumstances should you give out your log on password. While this problem can typically be resolved in short order, it can take over 48 hours in some instances, so be prepared to exercise patience.
