NEW!IMPORTANT INFORMATION: New certificates required for Wireless Network and VPN

If you have a computer which connects to OCU’s wireless network or to the university’s VPN services, you will need to download and install a new digital certificate immediately. Directions for doing this can be found below. Unfortunately the “auto enrollment” feature of our certificate server did not function as advertised by the software company. The previous certificates expired today causing authentication problems for both wireless and VPN. To resolve this on your computer is a two step process and is relatively simple to do. Here are the steps:

Certificate Installation in Two Easy Steps Step 1: Get a certificate

  1. Make sure your computer is on the Internet either through a wired or wireless connection.
  2. Click this link to get a certificate: Certificate Maker (NOTE: Use your OCU username and password combination. Your username should be entered as “ocu“. For example, a student with username “jsmith.stu” would enter “ocujsmith.stu”.)
  3. Save the certificate in a location you will remember such as your desktop. For simplicity sake, keep the file name “mycert.pfx”.

Step 2 for Microsoft Windows: Install your certificate

  1. Double click the certificate you saved in Step 1 to bring up the “Certificate Import Wizard”.
  2. Click Next on the welcome screen.
  3. Click Next on the “File to Import” screen.
  4. Enter “pass” on the “Password” screen and click Next.
  5. Click Next on the “Certificate Store” screen.
  6. Click Finish to execute the import of the certificate.

Step 2 for Mac OSX: Install your certificate

  1. Double click the certificate you saved in Step 1.
  2. Click OK to add your certificate to the login keychain.
  3. Enter “pass” as the password and click OK.
  4. (Optional) Three new certificates are now displayed in your Keychain application: one named after you, one named “Stars” and another named “StarNet”. For each one double click the certificate, expand “Trust Settings”, and select “Always Trust” where it says “When using this certificate”.

Robert J. Turner Student Nomination Announcement

ROBERT J. TURNER AMERICAN INN OF COURT NOMINATIONS

The Robert J. Turner Inn of Court (“RJT Inn”) is accepting nominations for Student Membership in the Inn for the 2008-2009 academic year. All students in good standing who will be 3Ls or 4Ls during the 2008-2009 academic year are eligible to apply. The RJT Inn Admissions Committee will select students for membership.

PROGRAM ATTENDANCE: RJT Inn programs are scheduled on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. approximately 2-3 times per semester. Program attendance is an extremely important part of student participation. Be mindful of this commitment when you seek admission to the Inn.

WHAT IS THE ROBERT J. TURNER AMERICAN INN OF COURT?

The Robert J. Turner American Inn of Court is an Oklahoma City association of federal and state judges, master lawyers, less experienced lawyers, students and law professors modeled after the English Inns of Court who together constitute a chapter of the national American Inns of Court organization.

The American Inns of Court concept was the product of a discussion in the late 1970's among the United States' members of the Anglo-American exchange of lawyers and judges, including Chief Justice Warren E. Burger and Chief Judge of the Ninth Circuit J. Clifford Wallace. Chief Justice Burger subsequently invited Rex E. Lee (then Dean of the J. Reuben Clark School of Law at Brigham Young University and later United States Solicitor General) and Dallin Oaks (then president of Brigham Young University and later Justice of the Utah Supreme Court) to test the idea. The mission of the American Inns of Court is to foster excellence in professionalism, ethics, civility, and legal skills for judges, lawyers, academicians, and students of law in order to perfect the quality, availability, and efficiency of justice in the United States.

The Goals of the American Inns of Court Foundation

  • To promote, establish, and charter American Inns of Court throughout the United States.
  • To help ensure the vitality and continuity of local Inns.
  • To facilitate the exchange of ideas, experiences, and ongoing education among members of American Inns of Court, thereby maintaining an institutional forum where judges, lawyers, academicians, and students of law, working together, may pursue the highest goals of the legal profession.
  • To shape a culture of excellence in American jurisprudence by promoting a national commitment to civility, ethics, advocacy skills, and professionalism in the practice of law, by communicating these ideals to the nation and the world, and by transmitting these values from one generation to the next.
  • To establish organizational credibility, visibility, and long-term stability for the American Inns of Court.

If you have questions, please contact Prof Mitchelson at 208-5182 or mmitchelson@okcu.edu.
