Library Research Guide

Journal Articles

Articles may be searched in EBSCOhost, JSTOR, and the Directory of Open Access Journals. An excellent selection of online full-text and print journals covering women’s studies, gender, and sexuality can be found at the E-Journal Portal’s Subject Headings in Social Sciences. Some of the major journals in women’s studies include:

Camera Obscura

Hypatia

Journal of Women’s History

NWSA Journal

Signs

Women’s Studies

Other important but more general journals that have substantial content on women’s studies include American Sociological Review, American Literature, and Representations.

Books

A searchable catalog of essential books in women’s studies is available from the Women’s Study Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). These titles and others may be found at Dulaney-Browne Library through OCU’s online catalog, or may be borrowed via interlibrary loan using WorldCat.

Another good way to find print and ebooks in OCU’s online catalog is to search by subject. Some of the most widely used subject headings for women’s studies are:

feminism

gender identity

sex role

women [name of country]

women’s rights

You may also browse books for women’s studies on the first and third floors of the library at the shelves with book numbers beginning 305.3 - 305.4, 306.7, and 331.4, although books about women and women’s issues might appear throughout the library under many different classification numbers.
