NURSING

Library Research Guide

Journal Articles

The most current research reports in nursing will be found in journal articles. You can search most of the library's nurisng (CINAHL+, PreCINAHL, Health Source Nursing/Academic), science (Biological Abstracts), and medicine journals (MedLine), along with journals, magazines, and newspapers on other subjects (Academic Search Premier) using the Search EBSCOhost box at the top of the page.

For more controlled searches, especially for Evidence Based Care Sheets, Continuing Education Credits, or to limit to research articles, search CINAHL+ with full text.

A complete list of journals related to medicine and nursing can be found in the journals list.

Books

Search the library's holdings (the catalog) using the search box above, or search multiple libraries’ holding through WorldCat.

Searching by Subject Headings often provides the best results.

  • Nurse and Patient

  • Patient Advocacy

  • Medical Care

  • Public Health – United States

  • Health Policy – United States
  • Delivery of Health Care

  • Specific areas of nursing examples:

  • basement storage for historic circulating materials

    Internet Resources

PubMed provides a free version of MedLine's database of medical and life sciences literature and includes many full text articles which may or may not be included in the EbscoHost version that is included in the search box at the top of this page.

    Items the library doesn't own

The Bird Library of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is available to all Oklahoma residents and has an extensive nursing collection. Search their online catalog to make sure they have the specific items you need.

If they don't have the items you need, you can request them through interlibrary loan by choosing the "Borrow Items from Another Library" link on the left. (Interlibrary loan takes from 3 days to 3 weeks.)
