HIGH SCHOOL THEATER INSTITUTE

June 28 – July 19, 2008
Rising 9th grade – graduating seniors

The summer OCU High School Theater Institute is designed for high school students who wish to explore live theatre in an environment of university and professional productions. Our three-week intensive program combines both classroom training and hands-on experience in acting, stage management, set design, set construction, lighting, sound and technology. We're pleased to be one of the nation's few university-based summer training programs for high school students that include performance and technical areas.

Under the supervision of OCU’s experienced, professional theater staff, students will develop their artistic and analytical skills through creation of our main stage high school production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.

The weekday schedule has students attending morning & afternoon classes in acting, character study, improv, period movement, and voice. Technical theater classes will include design concepts, lighting, shop safety, automation and stage management. Students put their training into action through nightly rehearsals and a performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

During the program, we are pleased to welcome several special guest artists in the field of technical theater:
Nol van Genuchten - Lighting Designer for Cirque du Soleil
Yves Aucoin - Lighting Designer, Celine Dion
Brian Gale, Lighting Designer, Cinderalabration, Disney Electric Light Parade.

Participants in the program should be organized, skilled and have previous acting experience (high school or community level is fine). Finical aid consideration is available. To apply, students must send:

• A completed OCU Summer Registration Form. You may find the summer registration form by clicking here.
• $100 tuition deposit
• A work related resume
• A recommendation letter from someone able to comment on your acting or technical experience and abilities

This summer, we invite you to explore your creativity and skills with the OCU Summer Theater Institute Program!

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:
DVD Audition submission: Two contrasting 1 -2 minute monologues. Submissions are only accepted on DVD (please, no mini DVD tapes). Auditions are not accepted on CD’s or audio cassettes. All submissions must include a headshot (or school photo) and performance resume.
