JUNIOR HIGH MUSICAL THEATER PROGRAM

Session I: June 14 - June 28
Session II: July 12 - 26
Cost: $1,960 (Includes tuition, room & board)

The Junior High Music Theater Program is a national two-week program specifically designed for rising 6th to 9th graders who have an interest in the arts and want to cultivate their artistic talents. Our acclaimed program provides students with an exciting introduction to musical theater.

Students will explore their musical horizons through acting, song and dance under the guidance of our talented, caring and experienced staff. Students will be in rehearsals for their fully staged musical production for the majority of their day but will also have classes in dance, acting, piano and music theory.

Each session culminates with a fully-staged musical. Past productions include: Once On This Island, Jr., Honk!, Godspell, Jr, and Cats. All students will perform in the show.

No audition is required to be admitted to the program (unless applying for financial aid). Admissions will be made on a first applied basis. Applications received after sessions become full will be placed on a waiting list.

To apply, please send the $100 tuition deposit and a completed summer registration application form (which can be found by clicking here.) Applicants should also submit a photo (school photo is fine) and a resume of any performance experience. It is fine if you have little or no previous experience.

Students who submit registration form and tuition deposit by February 10th, 2008 receive 10% off their entire tuition. Early application also provides students with good financial aid and scholarship consideration.

If a student wishes to be considered for financial aid, they must audition - either live or by DVD submission. Junior high audition requirements are two musical theater songs of your choice. You may substitute an art, folk, or classical song for one of the selections. Applicants should be recorded live with live piano accompaniment (no backing/karaoke tracks). Recordings of live stage performances/shows are not acceptable. Submissions must be on DVD (mini DVDs, VHS, and audio tapes are not accepted). Financial aid applicants must fill out the financial aid section on the summer registration form and submit all requested documents.

For those who will be submitting an audition for financial aid consideration, here are some important deadlines. Please note that financial aid is limted and not guaranteed. Early application is suggested.

Mailed auditions will be accepted beginning December 1st.

First admission deadline: February 10th
Student who submit an audition by this date will be notified of their admission status by February 15th.

Second admission deadline: March 10th
Student who submit an audition by this date will be notified of their admission status by March 15th.

Third admission deadline: April 10th

QUICK FAQ’s

What kind of student should apply?
We encourage students of all ability levels and backgrounds to apply. An extensive performance resume or years of voice and dance lessons are not required. While we do have experienced students participate, we understand that you are growing and developing as a performer. Our program will help you develop skills and abilities in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere.

Do students live on campus?
Yes. Students will reside in an OCU dormitory that is within walking distance of the music school. Rooms are double-occupancy with air conditioning. OCU Student Counselors reside in the dorms and supervise the students during the entire program.

Is there a policy about campus visits?
No visitors (including parents) are allowed during the week. Family members may visit during our Parent’s Weekend – the first Saturday of each session.

Will I have to audition for the show?
Yes. All participants will audition once they arrive on campus. No one is pre-cast. The first few days of the program deal with the audition process where the instructors talk about how to audition, review auditions songs and choreography and make the whole process fun! We realize that some of our participants may have little or no audition experience and we'll make it as an enjoyable process as possible!

Is there a difference between the two sessions?
The curriculum of each session will be the same. There is no preference given to participants in either session. Applicants should indicate their preference of sessions. If you are accepted and the session you prefer has already been filled you will have the option to attend the other session. You may attend more than one session or program.

I might be a little afraid as I've never been away from home for a long time.
We understand. Remember, there will be many other students like yourself who are away from home for the first time. You'll make friends from all over the nation while having fun putting on a show. Our OCU staff is always here to help at anytime during your stay.
