and Concert Schedule
OCU BANDS
Dr. Matthew Mailman, Conductor
The Wind Philharmonic is comprised of the finest wind and
percussion students from all areas of the Oklahoma City University
student population and has been continually acknowledged for its
commitment to musical growth and excellence. The ensemble, one of
the finest in the Southwest, performs an average of seven to eight
performances a year and is dedicated to promoting the highest
standards of performance of the best music from the wind band
repertoire and has been recognized for its eminence by some of
today’s most important composers, including Karel Husa,
Ed Knight,
Martin Mailman,
Ron Nelson,
Jerod Sheffer Tate,
Joseph Schwantner,
Lamont Downs, and
Daniel Bukvich .
The Wind Philharmonic offers a creative and positive music-making environment which allows the
knowledge gained in the studio to be applied to ensemble performance
and features a wide range of instrumentations from full symphonic
band to one-on-a-part. Membership selection and placement are by
audition.
The OCU
Basketball Pep Band, directed by
Dr. Matthew Mailman, is comprised of seventeen accomplished
musicians from all areas of the Oklahoma City University student population. This
high-profile group plays at all home basketball games, tournaments,
and playoffs, and has been featured on ESPN and Channel 4 KFOR-TV
sports news (Oklahoma City's NBC affilliate). The ensemble plays
from a catalog of the most exciting and challenging music for
athletic bands today and creates a powerful venue for student
arrangers. This high-energy group is devoted to encouraging and
supporting the OCU Stars basketball teams (men's and women's)
before, during, and after games and promoting spirit among the fans,
which average 2500 per game. Membership selection and placement are
by audition.
