PROJECT 21 COMPOSERS

Founded in 1997 by a group of OCU composers, Project 21 is committed to bringing original musical works to life. Members strive to gain insight into the working knowledge of music, drawing from their unique musical and cultural backgrounds to enrich the program. Project 21 composers learn by experience, developing compositional techniques that allow them to express their authentic selves.

Composition students exemplify the versatility that the Bass School endeavors to instill in its graduates. Composition students receive a strong technical grounding and are encouraged to write for a variety of ensembles and mediums including orchestra, chamber, musical theater, dance, and multimedia. Students work closely with the composer-in-residence and with distinguished guest artists. Recent visiting composers have included John Corigliano, David Maslanka, Ron Nelson, Simon Sargon, and Jared Tate.

COMPOSERS' FORUM

The weekly assembly provides a venue for musicians to discuss topics relevant to the field of composition. The convention of diverse ideas and perspectives provides composers at all stages of their development with valuable resources for artistic development. The Forum enables students to learn from one another in a variety of ways: exploring new musical ideas, encountering various composition techniques, exposing oneself to a mixture of viewpoints, and participating in broad-based discussions.
