Kate Pritchett, associate professor of horn, currently plays third horn with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, principal horn with the Lawton Philharmonic, and as an extra with the Tulsa Symphony. She also frequently plays with the Oklahoma City Brightmusic Chamber Music Ensemble. In recent years, she performed regularly with various groups in Texas, including the Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Richardson Symphony Orchestra, and (on period instruments) with early-music groups such as the Orchestra of New Spain. Earlier musical activities include the Greeley Philharmonic in Colorado and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra of New Zealand.
Dr. Pritchett received both her DMA and MM in horn performance at the University of North Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Her teachers have included William Scharnberg, Greg Hustis, Bill Bernatis and Jack Herrick.
In addition to Oklahoma City University, where she has taught since 2002, teaching positions have included those at the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Woman’s University and the University of North Texas. She has also recently been named the News Editor for The Horn Call, the periodical of the International Horn Society.
