Michael Fresonke is adjunct instructor of
guitar at the Bass School of Music and on the faculty of OCU’s
Performing Arts Academy.
He balances teaching with an active performance schedule. Recent
appearances range from classical recitals to pop music with Sony
recording artist Natalie Loftin, from appearances with his 23rd Street
Jazz combo to vocal/guitar duets with international opera star Beverly
Hoch.
Music has been a part of his life from a young age. As a boy, Fresonke
performed on guitar during children’s Masses and played saxophone in
middle and high school. He began studies with Oklahoma City jazz
guitarist Danny Vaughan while still a teenager. He went on to study with
Mark Cruz on his way to earning an undergraduate degree at OCU, and
studied with Gerald Klickstein at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
He obtained his master’s degree from University of Missouri-Kansas City
Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Douglass Niedt and Adam
Holsman.
Fresonke offers group and private lessons in his OCU guitar studio.
Guitar majors focus on technique and a classical repertoire while honing
performance skills in weekly master classes. Guitarists are invited to
explore the world of jazz on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and to participate
in Guitar Ensemble on Mondays and Wednesdays. The ensemble covers styles
from classical guitar quartets, to mixed ensembles with other musicians,
to rock and roll.
