Ensemble Placement Auditions for Incoming Students

Chair Placement Auditions

Instrumental Chair Placement auditions will be scheduled Sunday, August 24 from 1-5 pm. Audition music and audition times will be posted by August 1. Contact Ben Nilles if you have questions regarding this process at bnilles@okcu.edu.

Instrumental auditions are held at the beginning of each semester and after each concert. The best players are awarded the highest chair, regardless of class rank or major. Auditions are held behind a screen. Sight-reading is included in the audition. All percussionists will be asked to audition on snare, mallets and timpani.

Assignments for Wind Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra will be posted the following morning. Pit Orchestra assignments will also be posted following the auditions.

There will be separate auditions for Jazz Ensemble and Pep Band.


Choir Placement Auditions

All new vocal students must complete a choir placement audition before Monday, August 25. Vocalists must schedule their 10 minute audition time on the sign-up sheet by Dr. Ellefson’s office in the Bass Center, BC B206.

There will be a prepared example for you to pick up when you schedule your audition time. Included in the audition will be general vocalizing, sight reading and several tonal memory exercises.

Thursday, Aug. 21, 2:30-6:30 PM - Male Voice Choral Auditions
Friday, Aug. 22, 2-6 PM - Female Voice Choral Auditions
Saturday, Aug. 23, 1-5 PM - Female Voice Choral Auditions
