OCU Rings in Holiday Cheer With Light the Campus
Oklahoma City University and its surrounding community must have been really good this year, because Santa Claus is making a visit during the Light the Campus event Dec. 3. {visit website} An evening of family-friendly entertainment is planned for the eighth annual event that culminates with the final decorating touches for the Christmas season. The community is invited to all of the festivities. The evening begins with the Children’s Fun Fest from 4:15-6 p.m. in the downstairs cafeteria area of the McDaniel University Center. Children can bring their Christmas wish lists to old St. Nick and have their photos taken with him. There will also be holiday craft stations, refreshments, music, party favors and more. The OCU Holiday Dinner will be from 5-6 p.m. in the University Center. The festive progressive dinner will include food stations throughout the center with entertainment by the Surrey Singers and a special program honoring student and community servant leaders. At 6:15 p.m. the trumpeter’s call will announce the time for the Hanging of the Greens. Participants may gather in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel for a joyful welcome of the Advent Season. The special service will feature scripture, song and dance. The university is also using the event to help those in need. People who are able to help are requested to bring an unwrapped toy or canned goods, hat and gloves or a gently used coat, items that will be distributed to those who are less fortunate. The university is already hard at work decorating the campus with lights, garland, ribbon and Christmas miniature displays. The campus is expected to glow throughout the holiday season, particularly during the Lighting the Campus event. Brenda McDaniel, OCU’s first lady, has a Christmas wish she hopes will come early – another large gathering from the greater community. “This is always our favorite time of year on campus, and we would love to share it with as many people as we can,” Brenda McDaniel said. “The children have so much fun, and the adults delight in watching the children.
