FRIDAY, AUGUST 27
Alumna Jennifer Sanchez has been cast in the upcoming Broadway musical “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” with Patti LuPone and Brian Stokes Mitchell.
Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher will direct the world premiere, based on the 1988 film by Pedro Almodóvar. Previews are scheduled to begin at the newly-renovated Belasco Theatre Oct. 2, toward a Nov. 4 opening.
Also on Broadway, Sanchez performed the role of Rosalia in “West Side Story” for more than one year after the revival opened at New York's Palace Theatre on March 19, 2009.
Sanchez is featured in the cast recording of the “West Side Story revival,” which won the 2010 Grammy Award as Best Musical Show Album. The album, with a cast of 46, was released by Sony Masterworks and produced by David Caddick and David Lai.
She earned her master’s degree in music theater in 2005 from the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. The Albuquerque native studied voice with Professor Larry Keller, and was coached by Professor Jan McDaniel.
In addition to her Broadway performances, Sanchez performed with the cast at the 2009 Tony Awards from Radio City Music Hall, on “Dancing with the Stars,” and on “Live with Regis and Kelly.” ?
