American patriot Benjamin Franklin, played by Oklahoma City University artistic director D. Lance Marsh, will perform two productions of ďA Republic, if You Can Keep ItĒ Monday in the Kirkpatrick Centerís Burg Theatre on N.W. 24th Street and Blackwelder Avenue. The performances are free to the public and will be held at 6:30 and 8 p.m. to honor Constitution Day, which will be celebrated across the nation on the anniversary of the documentís adoption on Sept. 17, 1787.
The solo performances will highlight Franklinís role as a founding father in creating the Constitution and will include some of his lighthearted wisdom.
Marsh is the artistic director and head of performance of TheatreOCU. He also serves as artistic director Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park.
Before becoming a professor he spent more than 15 years as a professional actor, primarily performing in classical plays. A member of Actors Equity, he has appeared at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, the Western Stage, the California Shakespeare Festival, the Okoboji Summer Theatre, Next Act Theatre, First Stage Childrenís Theatre, the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, the Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival, the Milwaukee Shakespeare Company, the Texas Shakespeare Festival, the Arizona Repertory Theatre and was a company member for five years at American Players Theatre.For more information, call Oklahoma City University at (405) 208-5000.
