OCU to Celebrate Art Collection Dedication During Homecoming

Oklahoma City University will hold a dedication ceremony for an art collection that was donated by Bobbie Burbridge Lane and the Burbridge Foundation. The ceremony will be part of Homecoming festivities and will begin at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 in the University Center on Florida Avenue near N.W. 25th Street.

The Burbridge Foundation donated more than a dozen oil paintings to the university. The collection features Christian-themed oil on canvas and porcelain paintings, which are on exhibit in the Dulaney-Browne Library and the President’s Dining Room. The pieces include a 17th century Dutch School painting titled “St. John the Evangelist,” “The Wise Men Follow the Star” by J.V.R. Patch, “Jesus with Pilate,” a French School work titled “Moses Striking the Rock” and “Jesus with Woman at the Well.”

The art collection is being dedicated in honor of Lane’s special friends including OCU President Robert Henry, Josephine Freede, Gladys and Morrison Tucker, Helen Ford Wallace, and Joyce and George McDonnold.

“I chose OCU to give this incredible art collection because of the kindness, deep appreciation and enthusiasm for our art shown by President Henry,” Lane said. “I am a proud graduate of OCU and felt my former campus needed to be embellished with fabulous art that my father, Robert Oscar Burbridge collected for nearly 50 years from all over the world.”

Burbridge Lane, who is board chairwoman of the foundation, also loaned the university a life-size statue of Ruth that is on display in the Clara E. Jones Administration Building foyer at N.W. 24th Street and Blackwelder Avenue.

“I think of Bobbie Burbridge Lane at least twice daily as I pass by the sculpture her family’s foundation has loaned us,” Henry said. “And, like Ruth, she is a woman with a mission. Whether bringing fabulous art conveying timeless Biblical virtues to OCU or as the creator at Kirkpatrick Auditorium of the spectacularly successful and entertaining Oklahoma Senior Follies, her vital life force is always at work.”

For this year’s Homecoming schedule, visit President Robert Henry and Bobbie Burbridge Lane stand in front of the statue of Ruth in the university’s Administration Building.
