President Henry: OCU Rebranding

Following is a letter to the campus community from President Robert Henry about the university's rebranding.

Greetings Campus Community,

I am happy to announce we have completed the research and design phase of the university rebranding initiative. You will start to see an exciting result of that effort as the new Oklahoma City University logo (below) begins to make an appearance in printed pieces, on our website, on campus signage, and throughout other marketing/branding initiatives.

The OCU rebranding has been a thorough and research-based process led by our Marketing and Communications team and supported by a diverse university rebranding committee comprised of faculty, staff and students. I appreciate the rebranding committee's dedication to this process of creating an image that matches the caliber of our great university.

The rebranding began over a year ago with extensive research conducted by SimpsonScarborough. Through an RFP process, the university then contracted with design firm Pentagram to bring the brand strategy to life with a graphic identity, including logos and an overall creative concept. The rebranding committee has engaged the campus community along the way with a series of open meetings to gain input and build consensus. In addition, several focus groups were held with current and prospective students to test various logos and concepts.

The new logo works in tandem with our branding strategy to provide a strong, consistent look across the full range of OCU media and materials. The new graphic identity - which includes a more modern logo, updated fonts, slightly new color of blue and refined photography style - mirrors OCU's desire to transform to meet the changing needs of our students and stakeholders.

It was decided to keep the strong icon of the star as the focus of the new logo to reflect our heritage as the "Stars," and to exhibit optimism for the future of OCU and our students. We also feel this new logo differentiates OCU from other higher education institutions in our market.

It will take several months to fully integrate the new logo into campus signage. The Marketing and Communications team will be working with the various colleges and campus groups to ensure the style guidelines for the new logo are available and fully implemented. Beginning in July, our OCU Bookstore will carry apparel and merchandise featuring the new logo. You can follow the bookstore on Facebook to get previews of the new items. OCU Bookstore Facebook. In August, the new logo and messaging will be out in full force as we welcome incoming freshmen and returning students to campus.

As we promote Oklahoma City University to prospective students and supporters, this new logo will be combined with messaging and images that convey the amazing educational and life-changing experience we provide.
