Jazz Sax Concert set for Distinguished Artists Series

Bob Mintzer

Jazz saxophonist and award-winning composer Bob Mintzer, a 2017 Grammy nominee, performs with the 18-piece Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, to kick off Oklahoma City University’s 2017 Distinguished Artists Series at the Bass School of Music.

His latest album, “All L.A. Band” released by Fuzzy Music, is a finalist in the Best Large Jazz Ensemble category for the 59th Grammy Awards.

Mintzer joins forces with the Oklahoma City Jazz Orchestra, now in its eighth year, praised by the Oklahoma Gazette for restoring “performances of full-scale, concert-style, big-band jazz arrangements back to the metro for the first time since the 1980s.”

Their OCU concert debut will be held at Petree Recital Hall, 2501 N. Blackwelder. Tickets ($15 adults, $5 students, free with Bass School ID) available from 405-208-5227 or okcu.edu/tickets.
