Kramer School of Nursing offers the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) through the following options:

What are the entrance requirements? You must have a master’s degree in nursing and be currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) as a nurse practitioner, certified nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, or clinical nurse specialist. The Administration DNP candidate must have advanced certification in Nursing Administration and a minimum of 750 hours of clinical experience in a leadership role. The graduate GPA must be at or above 3.25 on a 4 point scale. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for the DNP program. A TOEFL score of at least 550 is required if confirmation of English proficiency is needed. A personally written essay describing how the DNP will help the applicant achieve life and career goals, and a current CV must accompany the application to OCU. How many hours are required to complete the degree?
The DNP completion program is 30 credit hours post-masters degree. For more information on both the Clinical and Administration DNP curriculum, please click here.
How long does it take to complete the degree?
The DNP program designed for the working professional. A student taking the recommended two courses per semester, including the summer, will complete the program in 21 months.
Do I have to do a dissertation?
The DNP is a professional clinical practice degree. A capstone project is required that demonstrates the student’s understanding of translational research and evidence-based practice, but no dissertation is required in the DNP program.
How much does the degree cost?
For current tuition and fees, click here. Out-of-state students pay the same rate as in-state students. A laptop computer is required, but the university provides free systems software and upgrades to meet our requirements.
Are there any scholarships or financial aid available?
Yes. The cost of the high quality education provided by Kramer School of Nursing need not stop a student from choosing Oklahoma City University. For more information, click here. Additionally, some of our students receive educational assistance from their employers.
Do you offer any online courses?
All of the courses in the doctoral programs require both in-person and online components. This means that doctoral students come to the OCU campus for a required three-day intensive prior to beginning each Fall and Spring semester, and once during each summer. Coursework thereafter in each semester can be completed in an online format. International students are required to reside in the Oklahoma City area and participate in on-campus learning activities related to coursework and other educational requirements throughout each semester.
Do I have to do any clinical time?
The graduate of the DNP program must have a minimum number of supervised clinical hours post-baccalaureate. Each advanced practice nurse will provide documentation of the clinical hours spent in his/her master’s program. A minimum of 250 clinical hours must be completed while a student in either the Clinical or Administration DNP program at KSN.
